We've got babies!

Hello Everyone, its been a long time since we were on here, since we lost all our eggs back in february we kinda gave up, but now we have three baby budgies and 3 eggs left! One of the babies and is nearly a week old and they are the cutest but ugliest things we've ever seen! all is good both the mum and dad are feeding the babies and the next 3 eggs are due to hatch within the next couple of days, Does anyone have any advice they can share with us on what we should do, we keep checking the nestbox and have been advised to check the babies feet for droppings but its hard when she is sat right on top of them!

Our main problem is the fact that the cage is indoors and is really starting to smell, it only smelt bad when we opened the lid of the nestbox but now its making the whole lounge smell, what can we do? and as we've got three more eggs to go and the others are getting bigger the smell is bound to get worse!Help!

Thanks

Nicola And Sue :o

i remember you!

Glad you have at last got what you wanted.

are you sending and pictures ?

unfortunatly we dont know how but we dont have a digital camera!

unfortunatly we dont know how but we dont have a digital camera! but they are very very VERY noisy at the moment!

awwww bet they are ugly but cute. :o

Congratulations.... I always think they look like E.T. without a beak when first hatched :(Laughing out loud): Good luck with the other 3 eggies :o

You can gentlely tap on the nest box to get the mother out while you inspect. She will return, don't be worried about that.

Not my hen she will stay inside the box and turn around in circles trying to get the chicks and eggs under her so I can't see them. It annoys me kinda because I want to make sure everything is okay but on the other hand it just means she's a good mom.

Sue when the mom is outside the nest you could pick up the chicks and check the toes for droppings. As far as the smell goes you should be able to clean the bottom of the cage as normal and if the nest box is really messy when mom is out you could try to clean part of it and then put back in a few chips if you already have some in the nest box.

Even if the hen doesn't get out of the box when you knock at least she knows your coming. I always knock lightly on the box before looking. :(

Hi thanks for all your tips yep my hen goes round in circles tucking all beneath her but she doesnt seem to mind me watching and although she doesnt come out of the box she will eventually move so I can see her chicks. We now have 4 chicks and 2 eggs and all seem to be doing well. The first chick is a week old now and so much bigger than the others you can see where the feathers are begining to come through but no eyes open yet

:bb: Hi Sue, congrates on the babies. :yellowhead: keep up the good work.

:) Hello!

Our oldest baby is now 11 days old and I held him for the first time today, he's so soft and starting to get fluffy, he's also really warm, he was waddling around my hand and trying to eat me! We took all the babies out to wash their feet and they are sooooooooooooo cute!!! We put them in a shoe box and they were all pushing each other over, except the largest who was more concerned with his waddling and the smallest who's being a bit neglected. We still have one egg not hatched but he is due today or tomorrow, we're trying to think of names for them as we currently have 5 and the only way we can tell them apart by is their size! So if anyone's got any good suggestions for 5 possibly 6 names for the cutest babies (and egg) around we'd be gratefull!!!

Hi Congratulations again on your babies :D

I think you should call the last one " Egg" :D as for all the other howabout a flower theme, Pansy, Daff, Rose, Tulip etc

Are we getting some more pictures soon????? Pleeeezzzze :D

hehehe we thought about a theme! but its really difficult! Mum and Dad are called Pinky and Perky!

We're trying on the pics!

So there's Pinky and Perky and..........................

Napoleon(the pig from Animal Farm),Miss Piggy(from the Muppets),Butch,Cassidy(the two runaway pigs that were in the news) and Babe,(from the film). Can't think of any more famous pigs!

Julie

oh I like that!!!!They're very very very good names!!!hehehehe!

Nicola

ooooooooo just thought! you forgot Piglet from Winnie The Pooh!!!! That makes six!!!

 Great names (Laughing out loud) but are you going to use them??

And yes more pics PLEASE

Congratulations Sue - I love those names!!!! Hope the last one hatches out okay too. Keep working on getting those picture soon.

What about Egg, Eggie, Eggle, Egglet, Eggburt, Egghead???

(Laughing out loud) those are brilliant names bea! :) hope you go with them B)

I only suggested them becaue i was going to use them for Blinkie and his bros and sisters! :) First they were going to be Egg, Eggie, Eggle and Eggbert. Then they were going to be Wormie, Slug, Snail and something else. THEN they were going to be Merry, Pippin, Happy and Sunny. Finally i settled on Blinkie, Jasper, Bubble and Squeak! (Laughing out loud)! I always come up with a lot of names when i have babies in the nest! :(Laughing out loud):

Hello, Unfortunatley we've lost babie number 5, he died either late last night or early this morning :D we could tell he wasn't very well because even after 3 days he'd made no progress and was incredibly weak and baby number 6 was alot stronger than him, never mind though, we've still got 5 beautifull babies who are doing really really well, we've handled them all now and they're so cute, all their feet are nice and clean from all the baths we keep giving them.

The oldest budgie is now 13 days old and is really cute, he's got a layer of baby fluff all over gim and he waddles around, closely followed by the second oldest who is getting big too now!

Im still so surprised at how quickly they've grown, it all happens so quickly!

We're still undecided with the names, but now we have 5 babies and it wont take long before we wont be able to tell them apart from their size!

We've got pictures of them now, its just a case of transfering them!

Nicola :(

You'll always be able to tell them apart! Don't worry about that! :D I'm really sorry about baby number 5. :( It's so sad to lose a little one. I hope the others continue to grow stronger each day! :D

:D Sorry to hear about baby number 5. It sounds like you are doing a great job so keep up the good work and well done. :fear
