One of my budgies suffered from scaleyface and is being treated with ivermec but the feathers around his vent seem very dirty and he constantly has faeces stuck to his feathers or just not quite out yet. Should i give him a warm bath or what?

Sounds like he is sick, a messy bum is a sign that something is wrong. do you have any sulfa AVS , that's what I give my birds when they have a messy bum before I give them anything harsher like antibiotics. You can get a broad spectrum antibiotic from the pet store.

No i dont have any of this. where can i get this or the broad spectrum antibiotic

Also are there any other treatments. please help

Just sort of sponge off the vent maybe? Heat lamp is needed.

Thanks. I am going to give him a bath. He is on ivermec should i also put some worming stuff in his water or is that bad. What type of lamp should i use if i don't have a heat lamp.

Ivermectin will worm them at the same time.

Dirty vent may be the scaly mites in the vent area... they dont just stay at beak area....Beak, face, around eyes, feet and vent. Dirty vent can be also stress due to the mites.

Should I bathe him??

Not the whole bird.....use some warm water and a kleenex ( tissue ) or cotton balls to clean its butt. During the warm part of the day....dont get it wet heading to night time.

You may have Stace..........BUT I wont put vaseline anywhere near my birds. Remember they preen their feathers with vaseline tranfered from butt to face to other feathers. Vaseline is a product I wont use.

Just thought id let everyone know Mo is fine and i put him back in the aviary, if you saw him you would never even know he had scaleyface. hes enjoying company after being alone for so long.
