Posted July 21, 201114 yr Just wondering if the branches leaves and fruit of a lemon tree are safe for budgies. i have been looking around and some say yes and some say no. Please Help. Thanks in advance
July 21, 201114 yr I understand you being confused...............many sites say toxic on one and non toxic on the other for branches and leaves. As far as citrus fruit goes...........my aviary birds get halves of oranges, lemons, grapefruit and mandarin all the time as well as halves of apple, sweetcorn on the cob, bok choy, pak choy etc.
July 21, 201114 yr Thanks what about the leaves and branches I have already answered that....................since there is so much contradictory info out there I dont use the branches and leaves.
July 21, 201114 yr Hi Pride, don't know if they are safe or not but the lemon trees I've had have some nasty thorns on them, you would have to remove those first I'd say.
July 26, 201114 yr I thought the sourness of citrus fruits would be too much? Obviously not if Kaz said she puts in fruits like mandarins, grapefruits and lemons. Edited July 26, 201114 yr by Taylor
July 26, 201114 yr Budgies do not produce salivia, so the acids ( or chilli) have nothing to react to and produce heat/sourness etc.
July 27, 201114 yr Author Wow thats really interesting. I wonder what it would tast like without the sour aspect. Also Kaz do still leave the yellow outer bit on, i guess its called the skin??
