Posted July 6, 201113 yr Hi All, This nest of chicks,( now out in kindy cage) are 3 opaline spangles 1 violet normal. Trying to work out genetics. As I thought Opaline was sex linked, BOTH parents are opaline spangles Mum, Sky Blue, Dad Grey/mauve (my guess only). Where does the violet normal fit? Shouldn't all chicks have been opaline? July 6, 201113 yr Yes all would be opaline. Do you have pics of parents. Lovely looking birds by the way, very nice spangle markings.

July 6, 201113 yr Author Sorry pics turned out oversized AGAIN can't get the hang of p.bucket since it was changed
July 6, 201113 yr Author Well thanks Guys, SO I'M STILL LOST, what makes Him Opaline and Her NOT? I TRIED F.A.Q but the pics are gone. Hope someone can tell me the difference's.
July 7, 201113 yr The easiest way to tell is the stripes on the head. You will notice that Dad's stripes are mostly gone whilst Mum still has stripes. yes, Mum's stripes are still there, but it looks worse as there is a lot of blue around her head stripes. If you also look at the wings, you will see that Dad's body colour has replaced the black on the wings, where Mum has some blue on her wings but the back is mainly there. Edited July 7, 201113 yr by Finnie changed "boys colour" to "body colour"
July 7, 201113 yr Author Thanks Dave, have copied that for further study. I was only going on the wavy colouring going up her head and back. Looks like I have 3 hens and a cock from the nest then.
