Posted June 27, 201114 yr Hi All, I bred this little cutie, peanut Aug 2009 (pet type) since then I have tried to decided hen or cock? shows no interest either way. Comes over to me in aviary for a chat. I'm leaning towards hen but don't know hope someone can help I have 2 new birds from a show, culls I think, I wanted some "new blood" Cobalt is fairly small but really like grey Dom?? pied again it's just a quess. Also pied's cere is neither blue nor brown it's a cock I think but how do you tell if it's in breeding condition?
June 27, 201114 yr Top photo is a cock.........if you have had it since 2009 and the cere has not gone brownish by 6 months its a cock. grey dom pied is also a cock and not in breeding condition.
June 27, 201114 yr Author Thank's Kaz, well don't know if I'd try to breed peanut he's only small unless I could find a bit bigger hen and see what happens. Dom. Pied is in quarantine so hopefully by the end of that he may come into breeding condition.
June 27, 201114 yr Kaz has already told you the sex The bird in the first picture is a spangle recessive pied. Because of the recessive pied mutation his cere will stay pink all his life
June 29, 201113 yr Author Thank you Neville, I may try him out, if to starts to show any interest in a hen.
