Posted June 23, 201113 yr Hi guys, i just have a few questions regarding two medications i have. Multi boost (vitamin supplement) which i havent used before but wanted to try how it goes and Probac Soluble (a probiotic). Now both of them say "change every 24hours or should be consumed in 24 hours". Regarding the multi boost - Why must it be changed every 24 hours? is this because the vitamins die off once mixed with water and sunlight? im really just curious on what the reason on 24 hour changes is. Also while im asking questions, with the probiotic - how long do you treat the birds for? a week? a day? 3 days? etc?? And also what do you personally do in regards to probiotics? how often do you treat your birds? i was thinking once every 3 months (4 times a year) So to summarise - im going to treat my birds with multiboost for a 3 days straight every 3 months (so 4 times a year) and i will treat them with Probac Soluble for (unknown timeframe) every 3 months (also 4 times a year). Feel free to correct me if you think the birds need to be treated more often or less. Hopefully you guys can fill in the blanks in my knowledge Thanks Edited June 23, 201113 yr by Lozza
June 23, 201113 yr Wait for the real experts to come on, but I know that those multi-vitamin solutions often contain things like sugar which is ideal for growing bacteria. That's why you have to change it out.
June 23, 201113 yr I haven't use the vitamins you are talking about, they sound like a pigeon one, am I right. Anyway it doesn't matter we all use pigeon products. I use probotic after the birds get treat on antibiotic it calms the flora in the tummy. But they say you should use it more often like a couple days a week. Should be changed everyday, goes off, slimy like etc. The vitamins I use 3 days a week but on the other days I use tracmin which is a vitamin to and one day a week they get plain water. Vitamins should be changed each day too. If you can't change your water each day, you should only use plain water but then that should be changed that each day too, the birds poop in it, they get seed in it etc. When you give your birds vitamins take notice what colour the water is when you give it to them and the next day you would notice there is NO or hardly any colour in the water. You can give the 2 products when you like but I don't think every 3 months will help much with the vitamins.
June 23, 201113 yr Author The Multiboost vitamins say its used for "caged and aviary birds - ideal for use in finches, budgies, canaries, love birds, cockatiels, cockatoos, rosellas, grass parrots and other birds" My water is given via a large glass bottle (vodka bottle) hanging upside down with a hole in the lid (so the birds drink from that) they dont get seed or poop in their water this way. I do still change the water every second day though - even though it isnt polluted. So would every second week be any better for the vitamins? (therefore twice per month). i want to use them but weekly might be abit much for me to manage. Also can birds feed vitamins to their chicks while breeding or might it have bad effects? I think i might go with Vitamins (dosed 3 days straight at a time with changes daily) twice each month and the probiotic (dosed 3 days straight at a time) once every second month (e.g january, march etc)
June 23, 201113 yr That should be fine. But when you do use it just make up enough for 1 day so there will be no wastage.
