My Friends Budgie Is Vomiting

Featured Replies

Posted

she says that her budgie has been vomiting for 3days now, he seems thinner but he still eats

his poop looks normal to me

she took him to a pet shop that specializes in birds and they gave her something called Marvel Aid by ecotrition it says on the label Broad spectrum Antibiotic Drinking solution contains Sulfadimethoxine 15mg

The directions say to administer solution as the sole source of drinking water, and to use it for 5 days to treat ruffled feathers, sleepiness(listlessness),diarrhea, loss of appetite, weight loss, nasal discharge and difficulty in breathing.

I was reading some posts and they say something about this condition being called cranker when a budgie vomits his food

i was told that the budgie doesn't drink the solution so she has been giving it to him with a syringe is this fine to do? Is there anything else that can be given??

Thank you

Your friend has faith in over the counter petshop medications when she should be taking her bird to a decent avian vet. Not all generic medications fix everything.

The bird could have canker or it could have megabacteria. Both of those require specific meds to fix it.

Tell her to stop wasting time ( which birds dont have once they show signs of being ill ) and stop wasting money on pet shop meds and stop believing that pet shop staff know what they are doing ( because they dont ) and get along to a vet who can take some swabs of the crop and ascertain the correct diagnosis and get the bird medicated for what it ACTUALLY has and not guesswork.

She just called me telling me she took him to the vet today and she was told that , the medicine shes been giving it was fine that it will get better and to hand feed it so he can get better that it appeared to have crank

i think that's bull**** from the vet to tell her that

The closest avian vet to our city is 100 Miles away from here so she took him in to a regular vet, is there any meds we can buy online or something to treat that ?

Sorry to say this but

I think she is lying about taking the bird to the vet.

I'm get the bird from her right now I'm call her to bring it to me

ive seen him when he eats he eats and then a bit after all the food he spits it out, I've felt his crop and he doesn't retain much food his droppings appear regular meaning hes still eating very lil correct?

is there anything i can give the bird to save his life? i cant go 100Miles to get to an avian vet i don't gave a car at the moment :/, i just checked online and yes the closest avian vet is 100 miles a regular vet is 15Miles from where i live

ill order the medicine online or call a pet shop were i attained scatt last time without having to order it online they have lots of different meds there please i want to save this birds life

Sorry to hear about this poor bird. He sounds very sick. Birds don't show illness until they are very unwell. He really needs to see an avian vet. He probably needs some tests done, like a crop wash to find out what's going on. We can't diagnose over the internet... we are not vets. Maybe even try calling the closest Avian vet and try and speak to them (not just the reception). I wouldn't be just trying any medication... he needs a proper diagnosis...

I agree with Maesie....................

whats the point in you ordering online meds which are not specific to what ails this bird. This bird is WAY OVERDUE for a proper veterinary diagnosis. If you were to go on your course of action its no different to doing what your friend did by buying over counter meds and treating at random. You will not buy meds online for megabacteria or canker.
