Posted June 9, 201114 yr Hi Everyone, Just wanted to ask a few questions. Recently i attended by first Budgie Auction in Ballarat, Between my friend and I we came home with 9 Budgies. 1 x Texas, a few Crest Bred and Crested and some Pied. There were just over 200 birds up for Auction nd the highest bird sold for $500 which was a stunning Texas Clearbody. Plenty of Ian Hunter Birds there as well. It got me thinking i do not belong to a club and i do not have any ambition to show my birds. I believe my friend and I have birds at home that are equal and if not better than some birds that were sold at the Auction. Between my friend and I we have got good lines of Dilutes, Texas, Lutino's, Albino's and Cresteds going. Would our birds be worth anything to Club Breeders? Is it worth joining a club to share our birds with them? Would our birds be worth more if they were CLUB RUNG? I am happy to post some pics when i get a chance, i have around 54 Birds at the moment. Wayno
June 9, 201114 yr I will give only my opinion on your inquiries as I can't speak for how others see things. Hi Everyone, Just wanted to ask a few questions. One can get tunnel vision about ones own birds with no yard-stick to measure up against. Maybe consider joining a club. You would only need show once or twice a year just gauge the quality of your birds. I have met breeders over the years that have been in your situation and had some smashing birds. They bred for the pleasure and they had their own set of goals they were trying to achieve. I know one or two who do not show anymore or are members of any clubs and still think their birds are top shelf. Sadly this is just not true. Would our birds be worth anything to Club Breeders? Personally I would say that if you were doing it right then why not. There are plenty of çlub breeders' who don't know what they are doing so why should their birds be better than yours simply because they are in a club. Is it worth joining a club to share our birds with them? It depends on exactly what you mean by 'share'. Would our birds be worth more if they were CLUB RUNG? Some people will say yes and others no. Personally if the bird on offer is what I want and has been bred to my satisfaction and the price is fair then it don't matter to me. You can get rings direct from the manufacture so you don't need to join a club for that anyhow. I am happy to post some pics when i get a chance, i have around 54 Birds at the moment. Would love to see what your birds look like, especially the Dilutes and TCB's. Wayno Edited June 9, 201114 yr by RIPbudgies
June 9, 201114 yr I agree with a lot of what RIP has said. Additional to that a ring on a budgies foot identifies it and can be checked against breeding records. Its the way to show its heredity, family line, parentage, age etc. Without it all you have to go on in most cases is what you see. Edited June 9, 201114 yr by **KAZ**
June 9, 201114 yr Author I do ring my birds for identification purposes. Like i said it was the first budgie auction i went to and the people were really nice and i was invited to another one at the end of July. Thanks for your comments.. will try and get some pics up on the weekend.

Wayno Hi Wayno, do you cabinet breed, so you know the parentage of your birds. I don't think it matters whether you have rings on your birds or not. But having rings enables you to tell where they came from and what family etc plus if you were in club you can show your birds, but they have to have rings on. I have seen some stunning birds from back yards. I go to the Melton auction and compare because I believe you will see a huge difference in the quality of the birds. it is a blue ribbon auction, one of the best around. As what your birds are worth, it all depends on what people want to pay and the breeders that get big money have worked hard for it and have won on the bench time after time, they are mostly open and Champion breeders. My point is you have to do the hard yard before people want to spend good money on birds, They are looking for birds from a breeder that wins a lot and has a name. But saying all that continue with your breeding and I would love to see some photos. Always after a decent clearbody. Oh forgot to mention there is a lot more to a bird also. Do your birds have the directional feather, width of face, big frame, feather, good chest and shoulder because that is what it is all about. post some pics and we will try and judge them for you. Cheers
June 9, 201114 yr Would you like to put names to to the breeders who you have brought birds off, It might help to get an opinion of how your birds, will go,if you have birds off breeders, who show there birds,it might help. But if you have brought off members, who only buy there rings so they can sell there birds as club rung, they may not be worth a pinch of salt. But we will wait till you put up your pictures & might even have a buyer or 2 for some of them. I have 2 buyers waiting on bird at the moment. I was to go to the Ballarat sale but my sale dates crossed
