Here are some photos of some of my chicks. Sorry the photos are not very good a bit blurry.

Grey green from my hunter bloodline birds. i think this little fella is going to be nice. Photo doesn't do him justice

Sibling to the one above, I think a hen, she looks much better in person than the photo, is a lot smaller than her brother, wasn't fed probably as a pinky.

This is the clear body nest, there is 1 clearbody in there and 2 in another nest and there are 2 yellow Df Sp and the 2 grey greens in there and a dk green spangle, The spangle has been moved to another nest to lighten the load. the chicks are from 3 different nest.

The same nest

This nest had 4 but the smallest died yesterday. There is a white Df spangle from a nest above and 3 from the the violets nest.

This nest is the violets nest, the hen is a violet daughter of shield winner and the father is her uncle a grey cock, he is full brother to the violet, they hatched 6 eggs and she is a good little mother but I transferred her last 3 because I put older ones in there because I was having so many problems. So her last 2 died.

I just hope all these babies make it and things improve.

Lost another chick yesterday about 15 days old.

Good news though another chick hatched today, there ar e2 chicks in a new nest and so far all good.

I think I have worked out the problem, SEED is NO good.

Your chicks in pics look promising Splat, at least you've got some positive results.:D

Really hope you have solved the problem, if it is the seed maybe the hens wouldn't feed the young because of it. Fingers crossed that it was the problem. ;)

Time for an Up Date....

Things haven't improved much but so far I have 3 clearbodies from one nest, 2 of them look really good but sadly they have diffusion, but i can work on that in the future.

I have 3 chicks in a nest that belong all over the place, once they feather up I will know where they come from.

One is from my white Df spangle cock.

chicks in the nest

I had a chick from the Lutino nest hatch two days ago but died stuck to the shell and another one hatched today and it

is a ino and so far still alive, the hen is young and I have no where at all to transfer the chick.

I will take some more photos tomorrow of some of the chicks I missed. Or I should say I will try and take better photos, lol

They still look very beautiful splat. you should be pleased with the wonderful chicks you got.

  • Author

Thanks Pride, that's what Geoff said last week, he said that most of them are really good and I should be very pleased with them. I have quality which is better than quantity considering I should have over 50 chicks by now but all have died. To date I have 19 live chicks ranging from 1 day to 6 weeks old.

i like your grey greens splat, ive got a real soft spot for grey greens.

Me too

One of my friends has one and he had beautiful chicks with another grey green clearbody hen

I would have bought one but I am quite happy with the ones I've got right now

:) :) :) Ive never had a grey green budgie before but splat yours look amazing:) :) :)

a few beautiful chicks their hun looks good

i only ended upo with 3 out of thirty eggs

5 actually one albino hen and one cull from first sight violet (my dautghers pet now ) and 3 just feathering now grey op and two other non feathered op chicks :)

better than kick up the ummmmm i say

Lovely chicks splat. I especially like your clearbodies. It is a shame about the suffusion.

You're having much more luck than me splat.

I only got 3 chicks, because my other pairs are either laying infertile, eating the eggs....or dead wacko.gif

Out of 4 chicks last round I only got one that might be usable. 1 died, 1 sits funny on the perch and the other flew the coop.

Fingers crossed for you

Gee sounds like Gb and Maddy are having a bad run too.

Hey guys now that it is starting to warm up a pit things might improve. well

that's what I am hoping any way.

Yes I am happy with what I have, there are some good birds there.

Well i was getting excited yesterday because most nest have eggs now and my violet has 4 fertile

so I was over the moon but then I had to remember fertile eggs mean nothing because the have to hatch

and survive, so I am just taking one day at a time.

Edited by splat

your violet has 43 fertile? Am I reading that right lol

  • Author

lol sorry fixed that mistake. anyway I WISH. But last year he through me about 20 or so chicks and most of them are still here. he is such a good boy, but this year he is a bit slow off the mark but at least he is starting to do his job.

Just through out 3 nest with clear eggs, so annoying.

look at all those pairs hard at work (well, mostly anyway)

I love your little trophy shelf

  • Author

Thanks Maddy I had to put it in there, it was in the old room, so to make it fit in the new one I had to turn it upside down so the doors slide open the way I want them to, but the only problem is I put that other cage up there yesterday for the babies to into and now the door can't slide open but I don't expect to win any trophies anytime soon. LOL But I am very proud of the ones I have.

Looks great Splat, glad I'm not cleaning all those cages. Is the radio for you or the birds?

  • Author

I am already sick of cleaning all those cages lol, I actually do it over 2 days, 1 side one day and the side then next day, the middle ones get done when I do the wire cage side because there is less cages on that side. But yes it is a big job.

Robyn the radio is for me mainly but the birds like it too. It is that noisy in there I can't here myself think. I Have to tell them to shut up for a minute or two, lol it works.
