Posted May 28, 201113 yr Yesterday i got a new show budgie from a friend of mine that had him with 5 cockatiels he feels thin i can feel his keel bone and hes really light, it also had really bad scaly face and feet with over grown nails i treated him with scatt yesterday and clipped his nails today he appeared to be eating seeds but prefers millet and bread, might he be thin due to the him being in a cage with just cockatiels and the mites??
May 28, 201113 yr Is it possible that the cockatiels were muscling him away from the food? if they were sharing it that is. I rescued a bird with severe scaly face and his weight was fine. It was more that he wasn't much to look at. If you're worried about his weight try some high protein seed like hulled oats. That should get the weight back on him. Just make sure he doesn't go from thin to obese
May 28, 201113 yr I'm glad you were able to rescue him. I'd start by ditching the bread. He has no need for it. Keep his seed supply up, add some hulled oat and even sunflower seeds. Hopefully the scat works for him and he feels better soon.

June 2, 201113 yr How far away from your other birds are you keeping him ? Just a few inches why? You might want to consider treating your other birds for scaley face mites as a preventative measure.
