Is It Safe To Add Quails?

Featured Replies

Right now we have an aviary, in which we usually have 7 budgies (WizzBang, Cosmo, Possum, Sparkles, Gilbert, Percy, and Tinkerbell). Theres only 3 of them in the main aviary at the moment though, since Percy, Tink, Sparkles and Cosmo are in seperate cages for breeding. happy.gif

I was wondering if it would be safe healthwise for my budgies to add maybe one or two quails.. Do quails carry any deseases that could hurt the budgies? Would they be aggresive towards each other?

All of my birds have really sweet dispositions, but will they be territorial, etc?

Really hope someone can help me out here.

Thanks :D

Quails are considered okay as companion birds for budgerigars, however, in my experience quails are too active and cry out during the night which may upset birds on the nest. Cheers Clearwing

Don't want them to disturb our breeding budgies..

But they will be safe? as in deseases and such?

Thanks :)

We have quails in my husbands Princess Parrot aviary and they do well in there with them. Breed like flies :D

I wouldnt put them in with my budgies as I think my budgies would give them a hard time :D

We worm all aviary birds at the same time so the quails get the same meds as the parrots. S76 in the water. We have had no issues with them in with the parrots, but as Clearwing says quails sing out a little at night and also when startled quails go vertically up into the air like a gyrocopter :D

Ive had dramas with hens killing quail chicks. Is at the point now where no chick would last a day.

Hi, if you are wondering why you recognise the budgie names... Gizmo is my daughter.

She fell in love with a King Quail today while we were sticky beaking at all the birds. I told her she had to research it thoroughly...

Thank you for helping.
