Posted May 24, 201114 yr When will she lay? We put there nest box in 30 days ago, they were even already bonded. We still don't have eggs!! Recently though they both seem like they are finally going to raise a family. She has started going into the nest box a lot more But for very short periods of time. Only for about 10 seconds to 3 min. yesterday she was running around like crazy going in coming right out then going straight back in. Mixed in with flying around the cage. She may also have an egg bum but I'm not sure. Lately she has also had large runny poops, they have got bigger. They are also first timers and both are a little more then 1 year about 14 months.Here is a picture of her;
May 24, 201114 yr With the large runny poos, it should be long. Try not to disturb them too much as they'll pick up on your nerves/anxiousness.
May 24, 201114 yr Were they in breeding condition when you put the box in? Make sure you have some cuttle fish or calcium block for the hen to eat, she will need more calcium at this time to produce healthy eggs. Also make sure you keep an eye on the hen, they can get egg bound more easy during winter breeding. You could also remove the box if there not in condition and try again in spring which is a more natural time for them to breed.
May 24, 201114 yr Author She was but im not as sure about the male. But after we had the box in for a week he got very frisky and hyper. The have a cuttle bone and get extra calcium in there homade egg food that has fresh fruits and veggies too. It's not winter were we are it's just turning into summer they are also inside.
May 25, 201114 yr Whats the light conditions like where they are. They will not breed well in darkness or half light. They also need noise around them. Too quiet is a sign of danger to budgies. If not enough noise play a radio where they are.
