Hey New To Breeding

Hey Everyone i am relatively new to the budgie breeding scene but i have successfully hand reared some of other peoples chicks....

Recently i have hatched my own chicks but the parents ate the babys ;( what do i do also they are in an aviary with heaps of budgies

Hi :)

Are you sure the parents ate them? I've been told that is very unusual.

Is it possible that rodents got into the nest? They are usually the culprits.

If not, there is a chance that the chicks were killed by other budgies, as it can happen when you have a whole lot of them in together (colony breeding)

It's why a lot of members here breed them in separate cages, as hen can get very competitive and hostile with other hens.

Thanks Maddy

i know the parents are eating the eggs because of the yolk stains on the front of the birds at first i thought it was others but now i am not to sure

So, they are eating fertile eggs and not babies?

If thats the case then you have egg eaters, and its a habit that you have to break
