Posted May 13, 201114 yr Hi guys, I was just wondering how old would these budgies be? I'm planning on breeding them later this year (if they are old enough which I think they are soon). And would you know what breed they are? sorry, pictures aren't the best. Thanks
May 13, 201114 yr At a rough guess ( it'd be better with bigger pics ), the 2 hens are very young, probably 2-6 months, and the cock maybe 6-10 months. I'd wait for someone else to have a crack though.
May 17, 201114 yr That cock looks like he's plenty old. But with the hens, I would wait until you have owned them for (at least) 10 months, then you won't have to have any doubts.
May 19, 201114 yr just taking a guess because its impossible to tell the age of a bird w/out a band with the year it was born 1st one is about 10 months or older 2nd one going by the bars I'd say 6-8 months 3rd one 8 months or older
May 22, 201114 yr Author Would anyone know what the babies might look like if I bred the cock with the hen that has the yellow head? And if I bred the cock with the light blue hen would it make a violet budgie?
May 23, 201114 yr Author Thanks for everyones suggestions. I already had an approximate age of what they might be. The blue one was definitely younger, and the others were maybe a bit under a year or something. Anyway I finally remembered the word! Mutations. Do you think the grey one would be something like a mauve and the blue one a skye blue? I have no idea of what the other one might be ( I nick name her yellow head). But I didn't know there really was different mutations in budgies until I read some books, so I know nothing about different mutations.(I just saw a picture in a book that sort of looked like my budgies!) Well thanks!
May 23, 201114 yr Author Now I think the cock might be a grey blue (I think it was). I just had a look at the book with the mutations in it.
May 25, 201114 yr Author Anymore suggestions about the age and mutation? I'm definitely not an expert!
