Breeding White Budgies

Hello, I have a pure white ino hen. My daughter is keen to breed her and would desperately love to raise white babies.

I have advised her that putting two whites together is not necessarily the best idea as it can cause issues.

I saw a beautiful male the other day. He was pretty much all white, but with small patches of sky blue on him. Would he make a suitable Dad? If not, what would you guys reccommend as a Dad.

I understand we will get white females and probably blue boys from pairing her with a blue male as the ino is a sex link thing.

She is a lovely looking hen, and will be ready in about October this year.

You shouldn't have any problems if you breed an albino with an albino.

I think thats one of those things that goes around spreading misconceptions.

Your right about the sex link thing.

But looking at these breeding expectations http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=23594 If you pair her with a normal cock you will get normal hens and normal cocks split for albino.

I would say that if you want lots of white babies try and find a cock split for albino or an all albino cock :)

Ookkk... The breeder I bought some other birds from strongly suggested not pairing her with a white male... now I'm confused :)

So... how do I know if a male is split for Albino short of buying him from a breeder and knowing his family line.

Would the just about all white male I saw with tiny dashes of blue just be a really recessive pied, or is he split for Albino or can you just not tell by looking at him? What result can I expect in that case.

I think some of the breeders on here can tell with some varieties...

I cannot though :P

If he only has small dashes of blue I would guess recessive pied, though its hard to say without a picture.

Because its recessive though, you might find you get white babies.

I'm still learning genetics myself so I would be interested to know as well :P

Are you sure she is albino?

I have been told never to pair two double factor spangles together, and they look remarkably like albinos

The difference is the eyes. If they are red she is an albino. If they are black, she is a DF spangle.

But other than that I would not know why you were told not to pair her with a white male unsure.gif

if you want all albinos and your not breeding for show then get an albino cock bird and you will only breed white red eyed birds

and the reason he said dont it most pepole seem to think breeding albino to albino small- ens size chick out come

but if the birds are not related it wont matter

they will not come out small just white with pink eyes

I got the guys on this forum to type her early this year as I was usure if she was a DEC or Ino. Their unanimous decision was Albino. She is absolutely snow white with dark red eyes and no iris rings.

This is not the best photo of her, she is quite a shy little gal. The whole genetics thing is very interesting, I agree.

yes albino

so any bird you breed with her will be split to albino if a cock bird

just only use blue based birds or you may breed lutinos also just no green okay

Albinos do get iris rings and in your picture it looks like she has them they're just not real wide

DEC do not get red eyes - Hence the name Dark Eye clear

you will NOT get any visual Albino babies if you breed her to a normal that is Not split for ino all boys will be split to ino

If you breed her to a lutino and the lutino is not split to blue you'll get all Lutino babies both boys and girls(all yellow red eyes)

if the lutino IS split for blue you will get both Albino and Lutino - again both males and females

If you breed her to a Normal Split to ino you'll get boys and girls that are ino along with normals and anything else the male may be split to or your female is Masking and or split to

Ino masks almost all mutations

I have one who was masking Opaline, Dominant pied and either masking or split to Grey wing & recessive pied

I have an English Albino hen who so far I know is Masking Opaline (She's only had a total of 6 babies so far so she can still be hiding just about anything)

Hmmm. I am going back today to see if that lovely male is there. I will post a picture if I manage to get him! I am really interested to know about him.
