Mites Or Pin Feathers Or ?

Hello !

I've noticed that Yoshi has been itching his face on toys etc. (more than usual!) and I've noticed he looks very patchy between the beak and eyes.

Sorry about the lighting but you can see the patchyness

I am worried that he has feather mites on his face, because he isn't hand tame I can't have a very close look, and my camera is very bad so I'm not sure that these pictures will even be of use to the members.

He is very red on the skin above his cere

Money is tight at the moment and taking him to the vet isn't an option. I think I might just get some of the insect killing stuff the members recommended elsewhere for feather mites just to be safe? Is there anything else it could be?

Sorry my photos aren't very good

Thanks for your help everyone

I can see pin feathers still in sheaths so yes...........he is moulting. :)

I agree with both of them. :D

They get very itchy when they moult. And sometimes when a lot of new pin feathers come in on the same area, they will look like they have a wound, because we're not usually used to seeing so much of the pink skin/tiny blood feathers. The first time I saw a pink patch on one of my budgies, I was very worried, but the next day I could see the pin feathers more obviously.

Agree with every one above he's just molting

Offer him more baths if he takes them on his own, or if you spray him with a bottle do it more often it'll help him not be so itch and it helps the new feathers come in easier :)
