Is Texas Clear Body A Dominant Gene?

Featured Replies

Posted

I looked this morning on budgieplace.com which is where i usually go to look info up quickly

but their info on how the genetics of the Clear body made my head spin and i just couldn't grasp on to it, Which i found Odd I udnerstand the genetics and how it works - I think its how they had it worded just didn't go well with my brain :)

Reason I am asking is I know it's a More Rare mutation Specially in the U.S. Specially in my area I've only seen 1 in person that was a few weeks ago at a bird fair/auction - he was in the auction part with 4 other English budgies and he was the only one and WE got out bid

but I was wondering Can Budgies be split for it?

reason I'm asking is 2 of my 3 English Budgie babies are starting to look like a clear body BUT i don't know if its just the way they are feathering up and it'll change as they grow up or if my mind is just playing tricks on me and I'm seeing something that isn't even there

I have got a couple pictures but they're at the age now where holding still just doesn't happen - which is very cute Except when I'm trying to take very good pictures of course :D

Both Are Opaline The 2nd oldest is a female and is also Cinnamon the youngest is Just Opaline no cinnamon and is male

These pictures were taken yesterday

Here they are together

I really need to get them named since I am keeping them

the Dad is Normal Sky blue cinnamon Split Opaline I don't know what else he's split to Before these 3 came along he only fathered 5 other babies from 2 different moms 1st was normal sky blue(so was the mom) the 2nd mom was Grey Spangle and they had 2 Grey cinnamon females and 1 Grey Cinnamon Spangle female and 1 normal blue Male.

the mom is an Albino Masking at least Opaline

She is one very picky woman She's only taken to 2 boys The 1st was a Grey Spangle split Opaline(that's how i found out she is masking Opaline when they had a male Opaline) and he's also split Ino they only had 3 babies 2 Albinos One of which I kept only haven't bred him/her Yet, the other one I also kept but he hasn't bred yet and he's a Grey Spangle Opaline

then she had 3 babies with the dad to the 2 I posted then a Normal sky blue Male which he looks like this This is the oldest baby of the 3

Am I seeing things? is it the way they're feathering?

I thought maybe it was because They were Opaline but I've had many Opaline babies and never before did the "V" at the back look like these two birds

or have I finally completely lost my mind( Yes i know I'd have to have a mind first to loose it :P) and just Dreaming big since we've wanted a Texas clear body for so long now i'm going to see them when they're not even really there

To answer the first question - TCB is sex linked. it is a par-ino gene. Just like any sex linked gene the males can be split for it.

My Storm who I'm breeding now is split for it due to his mother being one. I'm hoping for at least one TCB chick from him.

As for your young I see no signs of them being TCB. I believe the Opaline and the baby tones of the feathers are confusing you. Their flight feathers need to be paler than the rest and in the shots they all have the same colour. Don't forget that Opaline lightens the fathers a little as well.

okay will read full post soon

Thanks if the site i was on this morning would of just said "sex linked" I would of gotten it LOL they did say that but then continued with a bunch of other stuff I just wasn't getting

and what does "par-ino" mean? as in Partial? I know what Ino means Just never saw that term :)

par as in partial yes, Yellowface is also termed as par-blue as it blocks only some of the yellow.

it means that the Texas clear body gene can work with the ino gene.

you can pair a ino hen to a TCB cock and have a split ino male that shows as TCB. Then if that male is paired to an INO you would get both ino and TCB babies, depending on the gene he gave.

PS- updated my first post with info on the chicks

Thank you :)

I figured it was just my imagination getting the best of me lol but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask :)

and I learned stuff I wouldn't of if I never asked :)

I knew cinnamon lightens the body color, But I did not know Opaline lightens anything :D

Thanks again
