my budgie Jet is very very ill, he is puffed up, sleepy and his vent is covered completly im poop.

but he is still wondering around his cage and being friendly to me.

my vet said that with food and water and isolation from other budgies he should be fine..

he is in a cage on his own at the moment, with lots of food a water pot on the side of the cage and a dish of water at the bottom, i have also covered 3 sides of his cage to make it darker and more comfortable.

is there anything i can do?? My heart is breaking for my poor little guy.

He really must see an avian vet. -_- They're the only ones with the expertise to properly treat him right now. He sounds like he's in pretty bad shape.

I don't mean to scare you but you really need to get him to an avian vet a.s.a.p. or you might lose him. :D

the vet said he will be okay if he is kept calm and by himself, the vet said he must have been bullied and kept away from the food

(wich makes sense because he is the only male with 3 hens)

Was it an avian vet though?

I'm not trying to be difficult or anything. It just really sounds like he's ill, not bullied. Those are classic symptoms of a very sick bird. I'm not saying he hasn't been bullied, I believe you when you say he has. I'm just saying that those symptoms you listed are the symptoms of a sick bird. He really needs a vet.

And even if it was bullying that caused this, he really still needs to see an avian vet. (But honestly, I don't see how it would cause such symptoms. What you described is known as SBS--sick bird syndrome. They're the classic indications of a very ill bird and only a vet can diagnose him.)

it was an avian vet.

Jet still seems very active but just weak. I think he may jsut need some food and rest.

Maybe you should find a new avian vet then?

It's impossible to diagnose a bird based on the symptoms you described without doing tests. An avian vet (well, a good one) will perform tests to figure out what the problem is. A good avian vet would also recognize these symptoms as an emergency.

You've probably heard this a million times before but I'll say it anyway: Budgies hide illness extremely well. Once they start showing such severe signs (especially weakness) you've got an emergency on your hands.

I'm not just saying this to sound smart or be difficult. I watched a bird go from running around the cage to flopping around in circles within five minutes. In less than an hour she was dead. It happens so fast and right now your bird is very ill. He's crashing. He needs a good avian vet. Spare both you and the bird a lot of pain and just get him there, please.

the next one is really far away and nobody in my house drives

How about a taxi or bus or train? (Not sure where you are in England so I'm just throwing out suggestions.)

im in birmingham

jet is sitting on his perch at the moment and hopping over to food every now and then.

he is acting as if he is not ill but he looks ill

Yeah, they will do everything they can to appear okay even when they're sick. Do you think you could get a taxi to the vet?

i don't know, a taxi would be very expensive, and then there are the vet bills.

if he is still not looking any betetr in an hour or so i will ask my mom about a taxi or phone my dad

Why not give them a heads up now? Time is pretty crucial.

it will take my dad a while to drive here, he lives far. And we are really low on cash at the moment for a taxi

budgieteen i hope jet feels better soon  he sounds very poorly. its never nice to see a budgie in such a state. if it is because he hasnt been eating, then maybe you could put some of his favourtie foods around the cage for him to nibble at?

Clean the feces off of his bum. If they are caked on, he probably can't "go", which is a bad deal. I'd keep him warm, and talk to him a lot. If they are sticking to him, he may be a bit dehydrated, so any way you can get liquid in him might be good - maybe let him lick some water off a wet lettuce leaf or something if he is not drinking from his water dish. Poor Jet, how long has he been like this?

as rainbow siad keep him warm, all the time he is fluffed up he is wating energy to stay warm, energy he could use instead to fight that ever is the matter with him. A bed lamp would be fine or if you can put him out in direct sunligh is very good (way from the wind)

You can give him easy to digest food like lettuce, any other vegges, furit or some egg mash.

well jet was eating and chirping and even had a bath that removed most of the poop, then my dad got here to drive Jet to the vets and on the way there (Jets cage was covered to keep him calm) jet was looking better when i peeking under his cage cover then when i took a look again he was dead

i was too late, i feel so bad.

so sorry, did the vet know what happend?, its not anything your other birds may catch is it?

the vert said it was just due to jet bein bullied out of eating, nothing that other birds can catch.

poor jet

aww poor little guy

try and keep your eye on the others make sure nobody else is being bullied

i think it was because he was being housed with 3 hens..
