Posted April 18, 201114 yr Hey everyone, I've heard that a boiled egg mashed up with everything and with no added salt is a great thing to give the bird calcium when the mother is nursing. I'm wondering if I can also give it to Dalek to see if he will eat it. I just tried some mashed up apple from a baby tin mixed with his seed and he spat the seed back out at me and looked at me like I had just poisioned the poor dear. xD
April 18, 201114 yr of course you can give it to daken. There are a lot of preservatices in baby food so you are better to peel an apple, decore it, then give it to them.
April 18, 201114 yr I boil the egg, then zap the shell in the microwave for a minute, let it cool, then grind the shell up in a mortar & pestle, mix it into the mashed egg, then put about a teaspoon in with Bob's vegies. He isn't overly keen on it, but does eat some of it. The birds in the aviary eat anything, so I give the rest to them. Bob's a fussy bugger!
April 18, 201114 yr Yeah... go for it. I also do as RJT does and add the crushed shell as well. I add veggies and they seem to love it. Give some to your aviary birds too, I'm sure they'll love it.
April 18, 201114 yr Author Awesome. Thank you all so much. And thank you Dave about that heads up with the baby food, home made all the way now! And now i'm kinda happy that Dalek spat it back out, don't want them going in to his poor body. Mum is a little wary about giving them egg because she's always been taught not to do it. :/ Edited April 18, 201114 yr by **KAZ** EDITED ....wary means apprehensive WEARY means tired

April 19, 201114 yr my birds (all of them not just the budgies) LOVE boiled eggs mushed up when I make their birdie bread the bread part calls for eggs I even use the egg shells from those eggs of course they're a bit messier to break up since it wasn't cooked lol but then the boiled eggs i use shell and all with those too (We make HUGE batches of bird bread have to with over 50 birds and they all love the bird bread lol) I've even taken whole wheat noodles cooked well done, Boiled a couple eggs, taken beans( i use a 15 bean mix for soup)cooked Brown rice cooked once everything is cooked all the way I mix it in a big bowl (mushed eggs n shell and all) then add in Frozen Mixed veggies and mix it all together(the veggies were thawed while doing everything else) this is actually the Main base of my bird bread ingredients but I'll give it to my birds w/out making it into bird bread and they love it the only Thing I've ever heard about eggs and birds was not to give them to often because eggs are High in protein and too much protein isn't good for the birds as for baby food I use it all the time specially when I'm hand feeding I mix it with their formula so they'll get the taste of fruits n veggies but I use Organic Gerber Baby food it doesn't have no where near as many preservatives as normal baby food and is much safer to use
