Obsessed With Toys

Hiya my lovely little Oscar has turned into a holy terror recently! He used to come and sit on my shoulder, have a wee chat buy now he has become obsessed with his toys. The only way I can get any attention from him is to bribe him with his toys! Should I take some of his toys away? Know its a bit selfish but I miss my little guy. What's your thoughts?

Thanks

Mine goes through phases. Sometimes all he was is his toy friends, other times he won't leave me alone. Mine has a thing with his reflection. I don't have mirrors, but he can made a mirror out of anything shiny. The toaster. The glass coffee table. A spoon. A pot. The tap. The cheese grater. My laptop screen. It's hopeless. I covered up the big mirror in the living room, so he just found other things to look at himself in.

Maybe if you swap some of his toys out? As I said, if he's only just started doing it, maybe it's a phase that will pass.

To tell you the truth, for me it's a bit of a relief when he gets interested in something else sometimes. Let's me get some work done.

At the moment my darling Dalek has fallen in love with bell. He loves it and if anyone touches it all *** breaks loose. xD He's only four months, so i'm guessing it is a stage. But he's still happy enough to come out and sit on my shoulder and chatter away, today he spent nearly an hour with me until he wanted to go back to his home.

I would suggest swapping the toys around, like changing them with a different toy. I know this works on them getting territorial in their cage, because they don't have time to get attached. I have considered doing it with Dalek, but because he's so happy and still comes to me. I haven't.

But for your problem, i'd say to swap them. Just swap one toy at a time, not all at the one time, because he might stress and start to refuse to eat due to it.

I hope that helps. :3

SHINY toys can cause problems as they can see themselves in them... and see a 'friend' in them. Swapping them around is a really good idea too.

I was just about to freak out about this because Dalek's bell is shiny, because it's all we can get in the petshops. Some how people like shiny things more then their birds do. But I looked over at him and instead of kissing it, he was biting at the thing in the middle, biting the edge and pulling it around to make it ring and then getting snooty at it and biting it.

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't do that to a friend. LOL

lol... if they become really attached they can feed it too, so regurgitate food onto it, as if it were a partner. Many moons ago my family had a male budgie who would talk to his bell for hours on end.

If they do start to do that, do you just take the toy away or is it safe to keep it in the cage?

Thanks guys. Oscar also loves shiney things but his new obsession is a yellow plastic tube with lots of wee balls inside it! It sat on the, living room floor for a year before he even went near it! LOL oh and yes he has started feeding it so I guess I'm going to need to take it away for a bit. :(
