Posted April 4, 201114 yr hello everyone, i just won't to ask if you can breed in winter? do you need some sort of heat sorce? what do you you use for heat? i live in goulburn NSW an hour from canberra thanks ralph
April 4, 201114 yr Most people dont breed through winter as your chance of losing newly hatched chicks is greater. BUT it all depends on your breeding setup. Some breeders have warm breeding rooms
April 4, 201114 yr I don't breed during winter because I believe it puts to much stress on the hens. Plus there's more chance of a hen getting egg bound. But I do know of breeders with insulated bird rooms who breed all year round and from memory Henry George is one of them.
April 5, 201114 yr It very much depends where you live and your set up. Winter breeding in a tropical climate is not as big a concern as winter breeding in a climate that can get very cold. I know that during winter Goulburn can have some ral cold days and especially nights. I would not recommend it unless you ahve an insulated breeding setup

April 13, 201114 yr hello everyone, can you have budgie's over the of other animals? thanks ralph not exactly sure what you mean by that unless you mean if you have an Aviary with budgies could you have ground type birds in it like Quail or something similar - that answer would be yes Many people do As for your 1st Question I breed all year round, but my birds are in my house, they have a room of their own and its roughly 75 degrees in there all winter long I can't have an aviary out side here the weather is just not right for that, my state has its own motto " If you don't like the weather hang around for a few minutes it'll change" and it keeps to that a lot lol I have pics some where That I took in May, it was pouring down rain my road was almost flooded Even had Ducks in my neighbors yard they thought his yard was a lake i guess lol then 15 mins later everything was covered in snow about 20 mins later all snow gone, all water gone, sun shining and it was about 68 degrees F* Plus we have hawks and I wouldn't want to even attempt to have my birds out side when hawks like to sit in my trees
April 17, 201114 yr Author i have a big chook pen with only a few chooks in it were i could put them in but i can't be bothered to risk it thanks ralph
