Posted April 2, 201114 yr I just felt like starting another breeidng journal I put two pet types down, and I am dying to see their colours! These two have never gone down together, and Phantom has been chasing this little girl I bred last year around for the past month. I put Phantom's regular mate down to his father. Lineage - Phantom: Yellowface DF Violet Sky Spangle Opaline Cinnamon Father - YF Sky Blue Opaline Spangle Mother - DF Violet Spangle Opaline Cinnamon Violet - DF violet /rec.pied and maybe fallow Father - DF Violet/fallow Mother - violet sky blue recessive pied I am thiking, all spangle violet's some YF, some opaline, some cinnamon hens....? April 2, 201114 yr Hey Squeak, they sound pretty! Where are the pictures? If Phantom's father was not violet, he can't be a double factor violet. But yes, all hens you get from him will be both opaline and cinnamon. (But only about 50% spangles.) It sounds like it will be a very pretty clutch.

Hmm, well, if he is a DF spangle, how do you know what the rest of his mutations are?
April 4, 201114 yr Hmm, well, if he is a DF spangle, how do you know what the rest of his mutations are? If both his parents were opaline & cinnamon he must be both those mutations as well as the double factor spangle and if his mother was double factor violet he must be single factor violet Edited April 4, 201114 yr by Neville

If both his parents were opaline & cinnamon he must be both those mutations as well as the double factor spangle and if his mother was double factor violet he must be single factor violet That is good reasoning. But she didn't say his father was cinnamon, just that his mother was. Plus, how would she know whether or not he got his mother's dark factor? Edited April 4, 201114 yr by Finnie
April 4, 201114 yr Author Phantom: Yellowface DF Violet Sky Spangle Opaline Cinnamon Father - YF Sky Blue Opaline Spangle Mother - DF Violet Spangle Opaline Cinnamon Phantom's Mother was a cinnamon, so all of the cock's would be split cinnamon. Both birds are opaline. As only light factor birds were involved, then Phantom can only be violet sky, correct? The parents have both only produced sky violet's, and like the dad. (I am unsure fi he is YF1 or 2) I am guessing the hen was cinnamon, I could not see ti visually but Phantom has produced cinnamon chick's in his clutches (hens) , meaning he is split cinnamon. So I assumed it was from mum, her body was also quite diluted from it. Here are some pictures of the family Parents Phantom Clutch mates (sky violet, sky violet opaline, yf violet sky spangle, yf sky blue spangle opaline (lime green colour) and Phantom himself.)
April 4, 201114 yr They are all beautiful! I see why I was confused, now, because you said Phantom's mother was DF violet, so I assumed violet= cobalt + violet factor. But you must have meant sky violet for her. And also you meant Phantom was SPLIT to cinnamon. Gotcha. That's what I love about budgie genetics, it's like a puzzle to solve. You go by what the parents were, and then also by what the bird produces later, so you can find out more.
April 10, 201114 yr Adorable Phantoms dad looks to be a yellow face type 2 If he was type 1 he'd be sky blue color and not sea green The sea green color comes when the yellow face is a type 2 since it bleeds into the blue turning it to sea green I've never had a yellow face sky blue grow up to be sea green with out being a type 2 yellow face also in the last picture of Phantoms Dad looks like dad has a violet factor I can see violet right on his neck area where it is usually seen if the bird is carrying the violet factor The outcome of this paring would be I did it with out the female being split to fallow since your not 100% sure Also I see no cinnamon in Phantoms' Mom one last edit - if dad is cinnamon or Split to cinnamon he gives the Males the cinnamon gene in a split gives it to the daughters visually If dad is split half his males are also split if he's visual all his males are split to cinnamon MALES 25.0% blue violet(df) spangle(sf) /cinnamon-opaline (Dan)rec.pied 25.0% blue violet(sf) spangle(sf) /cinnamon-opaline (Dan)rec.pied 25.0% blue violet(df) spangle(sf) /opaline (Dan)rec.pied 25.0% blue violet(sf) spangle(sf) /opaline (Dan)rec.pied FEMALES 25.0% blue violet(df) opaline spangle(sf) /(Dan)rec.pied 25.0% blue violet(sf) opaline spangle(sf) /(Dan)rec.pied 25.0% blue violet(df) cinnamon opaline spangle(sf) /(Dan)rec.pied 25.0% blue violet(sf) cinnamon opaline spangle(sf) /(Dan)rec.pied Edited April 10, 201114 yr by K&M Breeding
April 11, 201114 yr Author Also I see no cinnamon in Phantoms' Mom one last edit - if dad is cinnamon or Split to cinnamon he gives the Males the cinnamon gene in a split gives it to the daughters visually If dad is split half his males are also split if he's visual all his males are split to cinnamon Well, the cinnamon is not there because the combination of the spangle and opaline would block it out. But the cinnamon is most definetley not in Dad, I have had at least 20 chicks from him and never had a cin. hen. BUT, I did unfortuntley split the pair up today. Violet went into a crazy moult, almost overnight. I was hoping that because she was in condition, be she was just a late moulter. On an incredibly bright note, Guess what I found out today!?!? As previously mentioned, I put Phantom's father to Phantom's normal mate ( a grey spangle hen). I was just expecting a pretty little DF Spangles, and YF greys/Blues, so when this little chick popped up, I assumed it was a lil DF Spangle, hense the white down. But, take a closer look.... A Pied chicken! Which means both parents are split rec. pied! aka, Phantom's father. Which means Phantom has a 50% chance of being split pied.... and if he is and him and Violet have chicks, I will have some absolutley stunning pied's galloping around!
