Posted April 1, 201114 yr i used to have a budgie when i was younger and have always loved budgies.. i was given 4 birds a few weeks ago from a family member that was moving and couldn't take them, they came in an avairy and were paired off already. they had eggs a about a month before i got a hold of them but none hatched. i have had them in the avairy at my house for a few weeks, one of the hens has been inside the breeding boxes alot, but the other hen and her cock were always disturbing her. yesterday they began to fight so i figured that they were competeing for who was going to have what box.. i decided the best option would be to separate the two pairs and see what happens so they are not in separate cages with boxes and if they decide they want to breed they can, (as it is beginging to cool down here in victoria i dont have high hopes of them breeding until it warms up at the end of the year, as winter is only around the corner) any way i though i would upload some pictures for everyone to have a look at, if you could tell me what the colours are called, and what they would be expected to have if they do have chicks that would be appricaited http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t273/H8FRDS/IMG_0920.jpg this is the first pair they are the ones that were attacking the other one as she was trying to nest (dont no if you can tell but the hen is the white/blue one and the cock is the whie/yellow/blue one http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t273/H8FRDS/IMG_0934.jpg this is the hen from the second pairing . (the one that has been trying to nest) she has been very happy in her new cage and explored the new nesting box almost instantly. http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t273/H8FRDS/IMG_0935.jpg this is her cock, he wouldnt stay still for a photo he was pacing back and forth after i put him in the cage i shall get another picture of him one day, but he has a yellow face with a mixed green/blue (turquise) chest and a more bluey colour underneath his chest after i begin to learn about the birds and how to breed them etc.. i would like to build breeding cabnets and have a few more pairs and breed the birds as a bit of a hobby.. thanks for looking
April 2, 201114 yr hi andrew you have some nice birds i would put the sky blue spangle with the boy from pair one though and the yf boy with the blue in white one from pair one basically swap hens as you will get a better colour out come and be-able to work with the genetics easier the hen from first pair looks to be a rec pied but i cant see her eyes so if she has iris rings she is a double factor dominant pied the cock bird is a yellow faced double factor dominant pied looks to be spangled but really would need another closer picture of wings to tell that id say hes cobalt not sky blue but a full body picture i could tell you for sure the second pair you have a sky blue spangle hen and a yf cobalt cock bird im going to say Australian golden face but only way to tell that is to see underside of his wings as along the top will be blue if he is but im sure he is so out comes well until i get a individualist picture of each bird front and back bar the sky blue hen then i cant actually give you out come results but can if you do this ps welcome gb
