Posted March 28, 201114 yr hey i have some basic questions to do with genetics and colour varieties etc in budgies. 1. i understand that green is dominant over blue and so on but lets say if i was to pair a green to a blue what would i get from their progeny? 2.if you have a bird that is heavily flecked but is otherwise a very good looking bird how would you go about eliminating that trait? if anyone could post some charts of the basic genetic tables that would be great im just trying to get my head around all of it ive read quite a bit of it on here to do with albinos yf and the like but not the basic colours. \cheers
March 28, 201114 yr hey i have some basic questions to do with genetics and colour varieties etc in budgies. 1. i understand that green is dominant over blue and so on but lets say if i was to pair a green to a blue what would i get from their progeny? All greens unless the green is split for blue. If you get all greens then they will be split blue. 2.if you have a bird that is heavily flecked but is otherwise a very good looking bird how would you go about eliminating that trait? Pair it to a clean headed bird ( no flecking ) but flecking can be hit and miss. You will get chicks with no flecking anf chicks with flecking and the ones with no flecking can carry the flecking and pass it onto their babies anyway. Flecking derives mostly from opaline breeding. if anyone could post some charts of the basic genetic tables that would be great im just trying to get my head around all of it ive read quite a bit of it on here to do with albinos yf and the like but not the basic colours. \cheers Expectations tables are already in our mutations forum
