Posted March 24, 201114 yr After two weeks in a small cage together trying to bond these two I gave up. Sparkles just kept laying into the poor boy whenever he even passed her by.. so yesterday I put them back in the flight aviary. Poor Cosmo was terrified of her. I just noticed this afternoon he is actively courting her and she's accepting it. He's head bopping, chattering at her and coughing up icky food for her. She seems to be interested and is certainly letting him sidled up to her without chewing chunks off him like she was. I'm flabbergasted as she acted like she just hated the sight of him... maybe she was just too upset about being in a small cage? Next time I will just leave them be to get on with their stuff!
March 24, 201114 yr ha, budgies always have their own plans. Have you breed them before moglet?? two weeks is a normal time for a bond to start forming between budgies. good to hear she is settling down.
March 24, 201114 yr Author Only as a kid in a colony set up. I'm not doing it that way this time. Too heartbreaking and awful when a hen gets nasty with another's chicks. It was just that she was so MEAN to him in the little cage and he seemed terrified of her, but now they are back in the flight aviary she's all lovey dovey and he's over the moon. Hah. I thought i would leave off until spring, she and Cosmo are old enough but I'm worried about it not being the right season and since she hated the small cage so much. Maybe it was just because she was new and unsettled. Go figure! Possum and Whizzy have also paired, but she is too young. So no boxes for them until later this year.
March 24, 201114 yr wise move, i would wait until you can breed the two pairs at the same time (separately still). She could have been unsettled and now around other birds feels more at ease.
