Can anyone just list for me the basic necessities I need to have on hand should this happen, as the previous time I was not properly prepared.

 

All I have with me is a crop feeder and some avi drops, would like to get some type of heat pad as I know keeping the budgie warm is vital during sickness.

 

is there anything I need to purchase?

Remove into smaller cage with heat lamp and watch it for a bit.

but doesn't the brightness from the heat lamp keep them awake and bother their eyes? i thought we had to take them into a dark, quiet environment?

No. If you are worried have the lamp overhead. Sick budgies NEED warmth.

A sick bird will sleep in light conditions, but won't eat or drink in the dark.
