She is an opaline spangle violet cobalt.

And she is pure violet.

I'm confused she is a SF violet cobalt or a DF violet cobalt.

I had a litter last year with a sf violet pairing (cobalt and skyblue) and one of the chicks seemed to be a DF violet cobalt and one possibly a DF violet sky. The difference between the SF and DF cobalt violet though was very small, only the colour on the possible DF violet was deeper and smoother violet, in my opinion. Sadly the pics never tell the truth about violets, here are my birds:

With flash from left a possible DF cobalt violet "Dolly", cobalt or SF violet sky "Deana", cobalt on the front "Ejala", possible DF violet sky "Elouera" and the mother SF violet cobalt "Polly"

So I can't really be of help  The only way to really know about these violets is to breed with a non violet and see if all the chicks turn out to be violets.

Thanks, falki.

She seems to be a DF violet cobalt. :)

Just by looking at her she looks like a single factor to me

i've had a Double Factor Violet and his color in person (never could get it in a picture except when I used my sons crappy camera lol) was identical to that of the Crayola Crayon Purple crayon

but in pictures he just looked really dark blue

but he was Normal mutation (no pied, no spangle etc) But Spangle and Opaline neither one are known to lighten up the body color though

but here's the one I had First picture is with my sons crappy camera (all grainy etc) but this is how we saw him in person

but when I took pictures with him with my camera this is what he looked like

Violet in any form is the hardest to take pictures of and I get so irritated with it Because they always make my violets look blue :( :( then i hear "oh what a pretty blue" then in my head i'm screaming "ITS VIOLET NOT BLUE" LOL (even when I state The Bird is a Violet They still say "pretty blue"

Thanks, K&M Breeding.

But she is violet without blue, so I think she is a DF violet cobalt.

(from the picture, I have to say that it's blue.)

Violet is a colour modifier. It occurs on any colour (think of it as added on top of a birds normal colour) so your bird IS BLUE and it is ALSO violet.

Thanks, nubbly5.

I meant she is violet unmixed with blue. she has two blue factors clearly. But she's not blue visually. For this case, I wonder how violet factor affects the body color and want to know if she has single violet factor or double factors.

With my Single factors and Double Factors it was very easy to tell if they had no other mutations that change the body color(like Grey wing lightens the body color etc) and yours doesn't have any either she looks like every single factor I've ever had

Single factors are Light colored

Double Factors are very dark and deep in color

at least all mine have been and I've had probably about 20 or so through the years

did both of her parents have the violet factor? Because if not then she is Single factor you can't get a double factor violet if only one parent has the Violet Factor

both parents can be blue and you'd get the double factor there But that's not going to make her a double factor violet

or at least that is how I understand it anyway.

K&M is correct. If you know her parents you can possibly determine if she is SF or DF. And if you ever breed from her you might tell if she is SF or DF as well. But visually it's a guess. Your hen is opaline - that lightens body colour to a small degree so the lightness doesn't necessarily determine if she is SF or DF. The "violetness" of the violet colour (as you say, without any real visual blue colouring) might or might not mean she is DF violet. There is WAY too much natural variation in colours to be 100% sure unless you have breeding records and breeding results to go by or you've mapped the budgie genome!

I do find all this SF DF violet thing pretty obsessive really. Not just you hans but everyone here seems to be a bit obsessed about violet generally. Even at show lately people are benching cobalts as violets just because they have some violet suffusion (which is common in a lot of blues) on their shoulders. They get sad when I wrong class them!!!

Anyway unless you are going to breed from her does it really matter if she is SF or DF. And then if you breed from her you'll find out anyway most likely.

Ahh I did not know Opaline lightens the body color up some - learned something new today :D

my obsession (and yep I am admitting it lol) with Violets is I just Love the color in general I've had both Df and Sf and I've had a Violet Cinnamon Opaline Yellow face(she was a beauty)- I like them both but I really really really loved my DF violet Boy I posted above he was just so beautiful in person I just never could get it to show up in a picture I even put him in a small travel cage and took him out side one day to use just the sun light no flash and it still never came out the way we saw him in person

but then again Purple is my all time favorite color so i'm sure that has a lot to do with me liking the Violet's so much .. OKAY it has EVERYTHING to do with it :D

Thanks, everyone.

I came to learn important things from you.

Now I see she is an individual variation.

I don't know her parents because I brought from her at petshop.

Thanks, very much. :)
