Posted March 1, 201114 yr Hi all, this an opaline violet sky, but for the life of me I can't work out why it's got White secondary tail feathers. Any ideas? Cheers Mark Edited March 1, 201114 yr by marknissen
March 1, 201114 yr Possibly melanistic spangle as well use the search function for melanistic spangle...we have topics on here. http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=15339 http://www.bcv.asn.au/Melanistic%20Spangle.pdf Edited March 1, 201114 yr by **KAZ**
March 1, 201114 yr tail feathers of the M Spangle are just like a normal spangle Kaz. I think this is just the Opaline gene affecting the tail feathers a little more than normal Edited March 1, 201114 yr by *Nerwen*
March 9, 201114 yr I asked a similar question today on a different form because while Looking through my pics I noticed one of my Opaline had a partial Clear flight feather - I was told its because she's Opaline - I guess i just never noticed it before this is an Older picture and she's in a nest right now so can't check to see if its more than just this one feather or not but As soon as I can I'll check and see if its just a single feather or more but here's mine the reason I brought it up on that forum was I thought I'd read some where that it means they're Pied(even if they don't show any other Pied markings) or split to pied but I couldn't find what site I read it on so I wanted to ask if it meant that or anything at all or if it was just because she was Normal green - she's my only Normal Green budgie and I really don't pay much attention to the markings on Normal Greens But it was pretty much unanimous the clear or partial clear feather was just because she's an Opaline P.s. not sure if it makes a difference since mine is a Flight feather and yours is a tail feather though I'll look through my pics and see if by chance I have any good ones of her tail I usually always get her sitting like this though lol Edited March 9, 201114 yr by K&M Breeding
March 9, 201114 yr It is quite normal for Opalines to show this in the secondary and main tail feathers but not usually to this extreme. K&M your Opaline is quite normal. The white patch in wing is what is termed a 'wing mirror'. It is a typical feature of Opalines. In Australian Parrots their is an under-wing stripe. Whent the Opaline mutation is present in the Australian parrots the under-wing stripe is extended to the first primary flights in such a way it is visable on the top-side of the wing.

I find this interesting and very valuable information. Thanks RIP

Thank you for that I wasn't sure if it was an Opaline thing or a Normal Green thing since she's the only normal green I have I had nothing to compare her to and my others who are Opaline are also other mutations one is Clear Flight pied one is Spangle so i didn't notice it on them I'll have to have a closer look and see if i see it now that I know what its for
