Posted February 27, 201114 yr As everyone knows, I have my little baby boy Dalek (Who is getting a bigger cage and a play gym soon ) and he seems really happy. But lately my friend has been telling me that budgies need to have a friend with them, my dad won't let me have another budgie in the house and if I ask and explain i'm worried that Dalek needs another bird, he'll tell me to put him in the bird aviary again. I'm wondering if Budgies can live by themselves as long as they have plently of human social interaction, which he gets. LOL He thinks he is king of my room and my brothers are constantly cooing and talking to him. She is telling me to put him in the flight aviary for a few hours a day to give him budgie attention and that if I don't he could start trying to kill himself. I'm really worried that he coudl, even though he seems really happy. I'm not sure about putting him back in the flight aviary and then upsetting all the other birds by trying to get him out because he still doesn't fly to me yet, he's only just learnt step up and only does it when he feels like it. Please help!
February 27, 201114 yr Your friend has some wrong ideas. If your budgie is being trained by you to be a tame budgie its best there is just you..........no other budgies. If you put it in the aviary each day you will undo any training her has. No....he wont die of loneliness or try and kill himself. your friend has some really odd ideas Edited February 27, 201114 yr by **KAZ**

He's a little bugger to train, and the last thing I want to do is undo all the work, he's only just learning not to land on my head and not to eat my lap top (Hopefully getting the play gym will help with the lap top issue LOL) I'm glad that he is fine on his own, would you suggest mirrors to keep him company while i'm not here? Or is that bad?
February 27, 201114 yr No mirrors.......they mess with budgies heads Leave a radio going while you arent at home as silence is a sign of danger to them and a radio resembles the chatter of a flock.
February 27, 201114 yr Mirrors are bad... he can see another bird in them and becomes friends with it instead of you. Your friend has some very bad ideas!!! Your current situation (once you get a bigger cage) is perfect for him. Keep up the training and he'll get there... promise!
February 27, 201114 yr Author okay, no mirrors. *nods* yeah, i'm looking at Cheap as Chips soon to get him a cage, just need to get there. LOL If we are going for the whole day, I put him on the freezer and he happily chats away to the budiges in our flight aviary and when I get home i get the loudest and happiest squawking and chirping ever. LOL Should I be mixing shell grit in his food to help him digest it?
