Posted February 26, 201114 yr Hey guys, I will be looking at having my birds breeding again shortly. I have the cages cleaned out and the boxes. I'm thinking next weekend to set them up. I have three cages I think i know who i want to pair to who but i've been thinking about for months now and keep swapping around. So far I think the best pairing would be Storm and Dot - They are uncle can Niece Storm is a blue normal split TCB and Opaline Dot is grey-green normal split blue Issues with the pair - storm has bonded very well in the aviary with Reepicheap his sister, Dot seems to be starting to pair with Macka (skyblue M spangle) I could pair her to Macka as the pair would still work, just not give as many outcomes as the storm and Dot pairing. I really want to use Storm with someone to get the TCB gene spread out in the flock as he is the last that has it. Then I have Kringle and Elle - no relation Kringle is Grey-green spangle split blue Elle is a yellowface type 2 normal and from memory i think split recessive pied I noticed today they seem to be pairing off. For the third cage I'm not sure. I really want to use one of the M.Spangles to get some more young of that gene. Hopefully a hen so i can breed back for some DF spangles. So I have Kazza, Minka and Macka (son of Kazza) remaining hens i have Melon and Chewy. There is Reepi but i think she is a little old to be breeding (from memory as i've lost all my files i think she was hatched 2006) Macka (they all look the same so thank god they have rings) Melon Chewy Give me Ideas people Edited February 26, 201114 yr by *Nerwen*
February 26, 201114 yr Sorry I don't have much constructive to add other than Elle is just gorgeous.. want!!
February 26, 201114 yr I say go with your instincts and that pairing off in the aviary means very little once they are in a breeding cabinet with another budgie of the opposite sex and in view of a nestbox. Aviary "friends" will be a distant memory once they have that nestbox and the inclination to breed.
February 26, 201114 yr Author lol, I've done that once with Ringo and it didn't work! (but she was a bossy bird all her life) Thanks Kaz - i know either pairings would make some great young. just looking for input Thanks Matt G - she has show lines in her but sadly i forget the names of the bloodlines. Kringle is from show stock as well. he is a bit longer than her and she has some great throat spots so i hope the pair produce some young.
February 26, 201114 yr Lovley pairs. Just thoght I would mention you don't actually want the throat patches in the spangles, it is a show fault
February 26, 201114 yr Author Squeak - i know in spangles they are meant to be a ring, many spangles these days don't have the correct spots. but all in that family line are light on in spots so that would help the normal young.
