Posted February 23, 201114 yr For the past few weeks I've thought they were all males. Their cere colors seem to change daily, sometimes more blue, or purple, lighter or darker. On Echo and Atlas, the lighter color around their nostrils is a pale blue and then lower is a darker blue. In the pictures it looks like it's white around the nostrils but that's not what I'm seeing in person. When they pair up for grooming, "kissing" and cuddleing it's Lily with Echo and Atlas with Toothless. But I thought that was natural because Lily and Echo were alone for a few weeks, and Atlas and Toothless came in together so it seemed like a ready-made match up. But here are the close ups of their ceres. Lily-- Echo-- Atlas-- Toothless--
February 23, 201114 yr I think they're all boys, since you are saying the photos make them look whiter than they are in real life. If they looked this white in real life, then I'd be questioning it. By the way, welcome to the forum!
February 23, 201114 yr Author What does it look like to you in the pics? Does around the nostrils look like a pale blue or really white? Because when I look at Echo and Atlas I see pale blue around the nostrils and darker blue lower on the cere. But it almost looks white to me in the pictures. Maybe my colors aren't set right on my screen....Gonna go check that. Oh, and around Lily's nostrils there is a glare. He's pretty solid purple-y pink. Edited February 23, 201114 yr by FoxFire_Ga79
February 23, 201114 yr Lily-- I can see that this one has glare, it's obviously a boy: Echo-- On this one I can see that the upper half is blue, not white, and the lower half is a deeper color. So it looks like a boy. But because the upper half is such a pale blue, it kind of looks like a "hen shade" of blue. Because of that, if you were telling us you saw white mixed in there, I would think girl. Atlas--same with this one. Most of that cere is a deep color. The "rings" being blue, don't matter. But if you were to say that the upper half was white, then I'd say girl. Toothless--And the only white I'm seeing on this one is just from the window washing it out, I think. So really, it's not that the pictures are conclusive, I'm just going by the fact that you said they don't look this white in real life. (Please don't think I'm any expert. I just know I'm the only one in the same time zone as you right now, so I'm trying to help. ) There's bound to be more input overnight.
February 23, 201114 yr Lily i can see is a male for sure. The others yes they could be males as in these pictures they aren't as pale and as Finnie states there isn't any white to be seen. They are at the tricky stage as their ceres are starting to turn to the adult colour making it hard to judge.
February 24, 201114 yr Lily and toothless are definitely males so Lily needs a name change. I am not yet totally convinced Atlas and Echo are males..........you saw the photos I posted about my females with the blue ceres ?
February 24, 201114 yr Author Yea, there's no white on their ceres. Echo and Atlas just have pale blue over darker blue. Toothless looks to be the youngest so I guess that's why he's still pink.
February 24, 201114 yr I was looking on your other thread, and Toothless appears to be pied. If he's recessive pied, his cere will stay pink for life. Do you have any back and/ or full body shots of him?
February 24, 201114 yr I was looking on your other thread, and Toothless appears to be pied. If he's recessive pied, his cere will stay pink for life. Do you have any back and/ or full body shots of him? Toothless is dominant pied.
February 25, 201114 yr I was looking on your other thread, and Toothless appears to be pied. If he's recessive pied, his cere will stay pink for life. Do you have any back and/ or full body shots of him? Toothless is dominant pied. Well, then no pink cere for him!
February 26, 201114 yr The only one that has me scratching my head is Atlas - all the others are boys but Atlas has me going back and forth they're all still young and from the Looks of it Atlas is the 2nd Youngest of the group with Toothless being the youngest (going by bars NOT counting lily since he has no markings) But I'd say Atlas is only at the most 3 months old So he's got a lot of growing up to do But I'm 97% sure he's a male too
February 27, 201114 yr Author Sorry these aren't the best pictures of Toothless. (And sorry for being AWOL. lol) But yea, he's a dom pied.
February 28, 201114 yr Sorry these aren't the best pictures of Toothless. (And sorry for being AWOL. lol) But yea, he's a dom pied. Well now, these are great cere shots of him! I don't think I mentioned before how pretty they all are!
