Posted February 21, 201114 yr I'm confused, (not hard for me I know:rolleyes: ) I have a Cobalt (possibly sky violet) Normal/Rec Pied cock and a Sky Cinnamon Hen (pet types) They have produced 4 chicks - 1 Sky Cinn hen/rec pied, one Sky cinn hen, one cobalt (Violet?) Cinn cock and a Cobalt Normal Hen/Rec Pied. All cinnamons are visual too. The cinn cock chick is definitely a cock, and the normal hen is definitely a normal.... The confusing part for me is I thought a Normal Cock x Cinn Hen are meant to produce Normal/Cinn cocks and Normal hens?? Am I missing something? Or do I have the wrong information? The Cobalt Cock (sire) isn't split Cinn according to the breeder if that helps in any way? Thanks for helping to unconfuse me haha
February 21, 201114 yr He would have to be split cinnamon,in would be coming from his background somewhere.
February 21, 201114 yr Author I looked at that table before posting this Kaz That's why I wanted to know as he wasn't split anything but Rec Pied as I asked the breeder this morning. Thanks Nerwen and Splat, That's what I thought, But the breeder said he wasn't split Cinn which is why I got confused - the breeder would have to be wrong then, right? I hate doubting breeders So I'm not completely genetics dumb then? Edited February 21, 201114 yr by Amy S
February 22, 201114 yr some breeders forget that cinnamon can pass on as a possible split from a split cock to normal hen breeding no chicks will be cinnamon but hens from that pair and cocks wont necessarily be split cinnamon but can be if the gene is passed which its not useully its 25 percent chance on other hand some breeders just forget whats from what and take a stab in dark or honestly think something when its not
February 22, 201114 yr Depending on the breeder Amy .....some or most breeders here in Perth you can absolutely guarantee there will be cinnamon in the cocks.
February 22, 201114 yr It would be a brave breeder here in WA that says that anything is not split for cinnamon!!!!!
February 22, 201114 yr What also happens is that breeders don't always keep accurate records and don't always record everything. It is possible the cock bird was bred from a normal bird that was split but because the breeder couldn't see it and/or is one of the aformentioned believes the bird is not split. Persoanlly any cock I get I always assume it to be split for Cinnamon and Opaline.
February 22, 201114 yr also they might not have been given the information when that line was brought into their own stock, so if they had no cinnamon chicks they assumed that he wasn't.
February 25, 201114 yr Just means the male is split to cinnamon It could be the previous breeder didn't get any cinnamon's with this male so they didn't know. If they only bred the male once and only got a couple chicks and none were Cinnamon they wouldn't know I've kept babies from Pairs I only bred together one time, to find out when I bred their baby the parent or Parents were carrying splits, I didn't disclose this when I sold them because I didn't know since the splits didn't show up in any of the babies from when I bred them there's been Birds I've bred multiple times and Only do I find the splits when set up with a mate that has the right genes for the split to come out - Like recessive pied - both parents have to have it If I bred a "normal" to a visual recessive and ended up with Recessive pieds I'd know the "normal" ended up being split to Recessive pied but since all the previous mates didn't carry the Recessive gene it would of never showed up Also with Lutino and Albino mutations they mask All mutations, and w/out breeding them with several different mates you wouldn't know everything they're masking I have an American Budgie Who is albino but after several breeding's (different males) i found out she is Masking Opaline,(I put her with an Opaline male and got a couple Opaline male babies!) Dominant Pied I bred her to a dominant pied and got Double Factor Dominant pied, She's also either Masking or Split to Recessive pied -I kept one of her babies from the Dominant pied and it ended up being Dominant & Recessive pied both visually I realized this when she hit the 2 yr old mark and still had no Iris rings and Her mate is a recessive pied and i got recessive pied babies technically they're both Recessive and Dominant pied 2 of the 4 were and one took the Normal Male Recessive pied cere, the other took the Dominant Pied male cere meaning one stayed pink one turned blue
