hi, someone might of asked this before but I can't find so.. yea lol

anyway, I was just wondering how you guys keep track of your budgies when you breed. If you have any program I would love if you would share it with me.

Usually after you ring the bird you record it in a breeding registry. The one i have which is readily available at most budgerigar supplie outlets ,it has six columns on the front page numbered from 1 through to 300,as i ring a bird from the particular pair IE:Pair 1 ,i just record that on the front page, If the first chick i have rung that year is ring number 1 ,well next to number 1, i right in" P1". Later on if i see a chick in the flight i like and catch it up ,i can look at its ring number and reference this to the front page and know who the parents where.

Some people also use the Budgerigar Program... or another Bird Breeding program so all the records are on the Computer...

I use the budgerigar program but I also make notes in a birdroom diary ( the diary is especially helpful as a back up )

I use the budgerigar program and a hard copy which is my books

I use 2 books. one sits out in the birdroom with all nest recorded. I have a nest number to each page.

Then I take that that book and record in my main register book.

This is the book I have in room with all nest and what's happening.

This is my main hard register book, I write the birds and young in the front of the book

and then Down the back a bit I write the pair number (parents)and each young bird I rung

I hope this helps, it is really easy to do. When I want to find a bird's record, I go to the

back of the book and find his ring no and I look for the pair number and I go to the front of

the book and find that pair number.

I have 3 years of record in one book. So I don't have to find a different book everytime and then when that

book is full I staple them together with the covers so they are still together.

  • 3 weeks later...

I use a notebook or like i am using now since I have more than just 5 different species breeding (the biggest notebook you can buy is a 5 subject lol) I went to the dollar store and bought a 3 Ring binder and a few packs of loose leaf paper and some Binder dividers spent all of maybe 10.00 for it all.

across the top of the paper I put on the left and again on the right - Left is male, Right is female

Name:

Mutation:

then I go down a couple lines and in a straight line i write the following (with space to write information)

Laid hatched Band Number Sold Date

I also make notes in the margins of the color/sex if known... how much it was sold for and who it was sold to

I also Add the sold bird to my Spread Sheet I have saved on my computer which keeps track of all birds sold, bird food bought, vet visits, and all other expenses (toy making parts, cages, birds bought etc)

then on there I have a "total Made" .. "Total Spent" .. and below that "total" that total is the Total spent minus the total Made to show if I"m in the whole or not.... and at the end of the year I see how far i'm in the whole compared to the previous years

I don't use any computer software I prefer to do it myself. on paper So I can just Pull it off my desk and look when I need to.
