Posted January 31, 201114 yr Hi all, first of all: what sort is Houdini? he is the greeny one in the middle of the picture http://i879.photobuc...1at123818PM.png And this is his partner Tex (because she massacred another hen's clutch), what type is she? http://i879.photobuc...1at123810PM.png They are currently in the aviary, but they were in a separate cage by themselves for a month before the eggs were laid and i only put them back in the aviary after the eggs were laid (because we were going away and the people looking after them found it easier that way) This is their first clutch (I have fostered eggs and then chicks to Tex before though so she is a good mum) These two are a pair and have two chicks which are starting to get feathers but I am at a complete loss to work out what sort the chicks are (still working on getting those photos on my computer). I will try to describe them: the oldest one seems to have light wing markings with green coming through on it's wings (possibly opaline??) it has a completely yellow underside though (ie: no body colour) the other one is a lighter yellow with the same light markings and green coming through the wings, but this one appears to have some colour on its underside. I will get photos of the chicks soon i hope but if anyone can go by description it would be great.
January 31, 201114 yr okay, it is hard to tell the mutations because there is only one picture, and the picture of Houdini makes it particularly difficult to tell, but.... Houdini - based on my guessing, I would say he is a light green greywing Tex - based on my guessing, I would say Opaline TCB in the green series. If this is right, the chicks in the nest will be all TCB as it is dominant to greywing, but all the chicks will be split greywing, with the cocks also split opaline. From the sounds of the chicks, they both sound opaline, which would indicate that Houdini is split opaline and both your chicks are opaline, so they may be either hens or cocks. I think that is right. help me out here people
January 31, 201114 yr only TCB if the male is split for it. i agree with the statements for the parents more pictures are needed. of the chicks too.
February 10, 201114 yr Author okay, here are some pictures, have been away and they have grown a bit so these are the latest ones. Chick 1: (sorry, fewer photos, was less camera friendly than chick 2! ) http://i879.photobucket.com/albums/ab355/sunshineblanc93/Screenshot2011-02-10at34709PM.png http://i879.photobucket.com/albums/ab355/sunshineblanc93/Screenshot2011-02-10at34705PM.png http://i879.photobucket.com/albums/ab355/sunshineblanc93/Screenshot2011-02-10at34715PM.png http://i879.photobucket.com/albums/ab355/sunshineblanc93/Screenshot2011-02-10at34722PM.png Chick 2: http://i879.photobucket.com/albums/ab355/sunshineblanc93/Screenshot2011-02-10at34734PM.png http://i879.photobucket.com/albums/ab355/sunshineblanc93/Screenshot2011-02-10at34729PM.png http://i879.photobucket.com/albums/ab355/sunshineblanc93/Screenshot2011-02-10at34657PM.png http://i879.photobucket.com/albums/ab355/sunshineblanc93/Screenshot2011-02-10at34654PM.png http://i879.photobucket.com/albums/ab355/sunshineblanc93/Screenshot2011-02-10at34650PM.png http://i879.photobucket.com/albums/ab355/sunshineblanc93/Screenshot2011-02-10at34645PM.png http://i879.photobucket.com/albums/ab355/sunshineblanc93/Screenshot2011-02-10at34641PM.png Also, we have a chick that came out of the nesting box about two months ago and is starting it's first moult. I always thought he had a yellow tinge around his face and on the underside of his tail but now he's moulting i can see it is definitely yellow on his head and on the feathers under his tail that are normally white on other blue budgies, other than this yellow colouring he is a normal cobalt bird. I am assuming this means he is a type 1 yellow face, but i'm not sure as we've only had type 2 before (his parents are normal cobalt hen and a light green cinnamon cock) hopefully these photos are a bit more help...
February 10, 201114 yr I think, and I am just guessing, that both those chicks may be Greywing Dilutes? They are cute little ones
February 10, 201114 yr Please size photos in your photobucket uploads and post the IMG links so we can see them all at once without having to use one link at a time. Allowable bbc sizes are 480 by 640
February 10, 201114 yr Author sorry about that!! I had resized them but it appears that i uploaded the originals rather than the resized ones, oops :-)
