I went away for christmas but forgot to take my breeding boxes out before it got to hot to breed as my budgies may get mights.Now some of my hens have layed again but i dont want them to get mights i have opened all windows and have put a fan in there..... is it okay to sray my hens and cocks with might spray (aristo pet bird mite & lice spary) to prvent mights will this effect the eggs?????? Please help as i do not want the lice to start!!!

Where are you located, It isn't to hot to breed? Right now is the perfect time of the year in some states.

Whether or not your birds get mites has NOTHING to do with breeding in hot weather. If you got them during hot weather last time that was a pure coincidence.

If you havent seen any mites you don t have them. And if you do have an ongoing mite issue you shouldnt be breeding the birds until you have it sorted out.

I dont no what type of mites they are. but i have talked to a breeder before and they said that the boxs should be taken out at this time of year and i am not concerned about the eggs being effected but would like to no if it is okay to treat my budgies that have eggs if they get mites as it iratates them ????

that makes me feel realy bad cas i have already thourght about that but it makes me sad.

Throwing eggs is better then dead chicks in the nest because of heat.

clancy i think you stated from the start that another breeder suggested you take boxes out

this was not because of the mites im sure but if it was he was most probably saying it as might suck the birds blood and the chicks to causing malnutrition in both and most normally death of young and sometimes mum n dad bird as their trying so hard to feed young while mite are sucking them dry

 

sure you feel bad tossing out the eggs but mate if your birds have mite you need to as you will end up with infested nest box by time chicks hatched then devastation of what i mentioned above

 

yes you could treat birds for mite but this will not treat the boxes and to treat the boxes you need to remove eggs to do this effectively thus could in turn kill the eggs anyway from moving them

i too would toss eggs away and treat birds clean boxes spray flight and all the mite treatment needs to dry on bird so ideally spraying a hen in a nest box ( a hen sitting on eggs ) could kill her by giving her a chill if she does not dry off before she goes back to sit also shes more likely to injest it as she will move her eggs around as needed and may get it in her mouth

 

id toss eggs out

if you dont want to fine

spray the birds and boxes but dont be sad if you end up with dead hens and unhatched eggs anyway :{

birds should be treated up to date every however often the product you use says with me its every three months
