Posted January 18, 201114 yr From last year's episode with breeding I used budgie hand rearing formula for a little budgie that unfortunatly died from-i think it was a disease in the box? But I'll need it again for this time just in case anything happens... Any advice as to how to use it properly would be great!
January 18, 201114 yr Follow the directions on the packet for mixing. Go to your avian vet NOW and ask to be taught how to crop feed a budgie. Crop feeding is a skill necessary for anyone who breeds budgies and too many people dont think of it or leave it as a last resort. You need to buy two crop needles.....one for tiny babies and one for full sized budgies. From memory you may need a 12 gauge or smaller and you will need a 16 gauge for older budgies. The kind they do now with metal section that joins onto the syringe and a plastic tube that goes down the crop is better because you dont have the issue with the larger lump of metal at the end that is harder to go down some budgies oesophagus. I am telling you to learn crop feeding as so many people come on here and are desperately trying to either feed a sick or dying bird or give it meds. If trying by syringe your efforts may be in vain. If you have learnt to crop feed you will save lives where birds would have been lost.
January 18, 201114 yr hi um i was wondering the same thing, why is it that you need this special equipment, wheres a mother bird just kind of leans over and yeah all that stuff. im not wanting to use a short cut or any thing, or question anyones knoledge, i was simply wondering, and was interested
January 21, 201114 yr Author I've heard that some people use a spoon with a spout at the end too, as well as syringes-last time I used the smallest of our syringes and it seemed to work but unfortunately it was too late does it severly matter what temperature the stuff is?
