Posted January 11, 201114 yr Hi everyone I came across the forum today while I was looking for budgie information. You have a fantastic site here. My hubby gave me the best christmas present two beautiful budgies. Mitso who is a green male and Lola who is a light blue female. Our family has had budgies since I was a child and I missed having budgies around since I got married. At christmas time we took our budgies to my parents to introduce them and put my parents budgie in the cage. The budgies played all day together. Unfortunately Billy went to paradise last Thursday. He was 8 and half years old. The whole family is devastated. Looking forward to posting
January 11, 201114 yr Hi and welcome Litsa I have some bad news for you I am afraid. You never ever add new budgies to existing without a period of quarantine. 30 days in another cage in another room in another airspace. What seemed like a cute thing to do with the playdate could have caused the death of Billy. Budgies these days can be carriers of many disease even without showing symptoms. Your two new ones might have passed a disease onto Billy which caused his death. Diseases can be contracted within a week to ten day period or thereabouts. Sorry to tell you this but if ever in the same position again ( like buying in new birds ) never ever add new birds to existing birds without doing a period of quarantine. Please do observe a quarantine period and get the birds checked by a well bird checkup at the vets. Edited January 11, 201114 yr by **KAZ**
January 11, 201114 yr Author I hope I didn't contribute to his death as I am quite upset that he is gone. I didn't know about quarantine. Thank you for your advice. Billy had a good life and somehow I knew six months ago that he was going to go as he was starting to sleep more than usual. I guess you sense these things.
