Posted January 11, 201114 yr hi i was wondering if you get the mite that causes scaly face in an aviary how do you fully erase the mite from the aviary Edited January 11, 201114 yr by jpwebb
January 11, 201114 yr Treat birds you find with scalyface with spot on ivermectin available from bird vets.
January 11, 201114 yr Do what Kaz said as mites only live on the bird, but then they do rub themselves on the perches etc so it wouldn't hurt to clean the aviary and spray the perches with an avian pestaside.
July 18, 201113 yr Sorry to reopen this older topic. where do you put the drop, on the beak or where?????

August 10, 201113 yr Hey everyone, ive been doing as the avian vet told me and put the drop on once a week for three weeks. it is going well and most of the cere is back to blue. however recently i have noticed that it has mainly stayed the same. sould i be worried that it is not working or does it take a fair while to get rid of scaley face. very appreciative of any responses. THanks.
August 11, 201113 yr i place a drop of medicated Olive oil or baby oil on my finger tips and while checking the birds i wipe it on the feet and cere. (not in the nosstrils) and haven't had scaley face for years. I also dabb the back of the head with Ivermec when pairing up. I also dabb the back of the chicks head when ringing. (not in the nosstrils) and haven't had scaley face for years. I also dabb the back of the head with Ivermec when pairing up. I also dabb the back of the chicks head when ringing. I was going to mention that old remedy. I use to use one part dettol to three parts olive oil on the affected areas. Only needed to apply it a half a dozen times and it would fix it. That was when I first started in budgies when I was 11, I am now 39...
August 11, 201113 yr I know i have added ivermec but im worried its not working, how long does it usually take to clear up.
August 11, 201113 yr It takes some time Pride, it also depends on the severity. A cock I saved from a pet shop that had really bad scaly face, still has bad looking feet even though its all cleared up. I bought him 4 months ago.
September 20, 201113 yr Scaly Face is very contagious, so, to erase this particular mite from your avairy, dab a spot of Ivermectin on the back of all the infected birds' necks. You can get the Ivermectin from your vet, who can explain and show you how to apply this treatment safely. It takes about 2 weeks for the Ivermectin to work properly.
