Posted January 7, 201114 yr I'm looking after somebody's budgie, Bill. Yep, I know Bill is a gal, but the owner don't yet. She is such a sweet little thing, loves neck scratches and such. My problem is that she hasn't been out of this cage for years, so she can't fly that well at all. She can't control her flight and can't fly down and sometimes just drops in mid-air. And she tires after very little out-of-cage time. I've set up a bigger cage ( yes, she's being quarantined ) for her and a play-gym ( adding toys tomorrow ) and will wean her onto a better diet with lots of out-of-cage time, but is there anything else I could do?
January 7, 201114 yr I like what you have done with the cage you wont be able to make too many great changes depending on how long Billie is with you, and would the owner continue those changes once you have made them ? Edited January 7, 201114 yr by **KAZ**
January 7, 201114 yr Author I'm not sure if they would, but Billy is very well cared for apart from the cage and diet, so they might. The owners left me loads of treats, his special blanket and food brand and two phone numbers. That cage is pretty much useless when it is the right way up. I use it for quarantine or any injured animals ( it's thoroughly cleaned and washed afterwards ). Edited January 7, 201114 yr by Ratzy
January 29, 201114 yr Author Billy went home recently and I explained all of this. The owner is getting a bigger cage, and will be spending much more time with her The owner gave me $50 for looking after Billy and 'curing' her biting issue ( cage aggression, no problem ) so I bought a massive rope perch for the budgies, which the budgies adore.

Good work. Hopefully they continue all of your hard work. It does sound promising that they were willing to pay you for looking after her. Keep an eye on this situation if you can.. like dropping in for a 'cuppa' or a 'catch up'.
January 30, 201114 yr lol glad someone else is as crazy as me and spends any spare money on their birds
January 30, 201114 yr Author I was wondering if I would be able to use that play area for my budgies ( without the cage )? As in a play area while I clean out the cage? Or would that be too risky?
