Birthday Budgies And Aviary

Featured Replies

Posted

Here are some pics of my daughters new budgies and aviary she got for her 9th birthday.

They are a starting point for her to start breeding. So we will definately be looking here for information and advice.

She has already learnt the hard way that females bite hard!

I have had to put wire on the inside and outside of the framweork to keep the noisy miners away. They started attacking the budgies through the wire straight away.

Cheers

Very nice work! Very lucky girl to have been set off on the right foot with such a good setup. Hope the 'budgie bug' bites her hard and stays with her for life! It's a great hobby :)

Noticing a few of your female budgies are young so check back with us for each budgie to confirm sex and age before you start thinking of breeding. Cere colour is no indicator of old enough to breed :)

PS Love the way you have thought about a safety door as well :)

Smokey is a grey opaline spangle

Basil is a light green spangle

Cheeky is a grey green cinnamon normal

Aussie is a lt green opaline dominant pied

Thanks for all of your kind words.

Thank you Kaz for the information on the individual birds!

Cheers

hello and welcome both of you

as kaz said some nice choices of birds

you will be able to breed a few really nice birds with troughs four

im a bit worryed about the amount of cocks you have with your quail

in that small area (small for quail breeding )the cocks will fight till death so please watch for any displays of aggression no matter how small as will become quiet nasty

you did a fantastic job with the flight and well done for encouraging your little girl i suggest that you take her to the library and get a few books out on lone genetics is the best thing to have up your sleave so a book with mutations and breeding a good but old one is the complete budgie book by john scobble ,colour breeding is a fantastic past time keeps your mind sharp and the nest boxes always hold a suprize

i wish her well and you along with her

Thanks for the info gb. I will definately get the book. I am also concerned about the quails now that you have said this about the cocks. We were only able to buy breeding pairs. And it tuns out that some of the ones that were supose to be hens have turned into cocks. So we have 4 cocks and only 2 hens. We think. We may have to find a way of geting rid of 3 cocks. So far they are all geting on really well. Although the budgies seem to have fun chasing them out of the sand bowl.

if the quail are from the same breeder then im sure they will be related as long as their gettng on fine it will be as the mature problems may start 4 hens two cocks may work so if you go back to the place you got them and say look i brought pairs but they are all turning out cocks take your 4 cocks with you say i want you to swap two hens please so i have the pairs i brought

if he refuses just tell them well im staying till i get what i came for or im reporting you to fair trade see how quick you get you hens :} takeing the four shows he or she sold you the wrong sexes if they ask about the other pair tell him he actually got one pair right :}

Nice budgies i like basil his colours are really pretty the others are nice too
