Posted December 18, 201014 yr We have mosquitoes by the millions here, never seen in thing like all my life. Just where we sit on the back veranda is horrible. The aviary and bird room is covered in them too. I spray them in the day with Pea Beu but there is not much I can do at night. Greg went down to his pigeons tonight with the fly spray because they were jumping around everywhere and he there were twillions of them. He said the poor birds. Well I was wondering what can happen to the budgies as they heaps smaller than pigeons have a lot less blood in them. I can't go out at night and spray the aviaries because the birds will got nuts. I have been laying in bed thinking about it and I came up with the idea of putting flyscreen material or shade mesh over all the wire so the mosquitoes can't get in, BUT what a huge job and more expense just when I am ready to buy my materials to finish my new bird room. But then if the mosquitoes kill the birds then I won't need a birdroom. Has anyone got any suggestions or know if the mosquitoes can make the birds sick or kill them by sucking all their blood.
December 19, 201014 yr Hi Splatty, We've got sh#t loads of them but they do not seem to be biting?!?! Better to use Avian insect liquidator from veta farm rather than peabeau. The fly spray might do more harm than the mozzies! Cheers PT Edited December 19, 201014 yr by **KAZ**
December 19, 201014 yr Author Hi Chooky I thought the Pea Beu was ment to safe with budgies. I don't think they are biting either, but boy are they biting me.
December 20, 201014 yr We have had millions of the little suckers to. Must be from all the rain and warm weather. I feel itchy just thinking about it.
December 20, 201014 yr I use a mozzie zapper in the birdroom. Its gets mozzies, moths and flies. Repeat.............. and they dont cost much from Bunnings one kind http://www.bunnings.com.au/products_product_20w-stinger-bug-zapper_2262.aspx mine http://www.commercialelectric.com.au/insect_zappers.html works for flies, mozzies and moths. No fly sprays, no vapours.
December 20, 201014 yr Author Thanks Kaz but they aren't in the birdroom, they are out in the open aviary and a zapper is no option because there is no power at all to the aviaries. Greg would never allow me to put a zapper there anyway. But I will get one for the veranda so that stop eating us. You know how some people are scared of spiders, well I have a fear of mosquitoes, freak out when they land on me, I am a big sook.
