hi-can anyone give me some advice?had my new bird 2 weeks and she has been fine-today she started shaking her head and watery seeds were flying around-could see her bringing them out of her crop in a sort of "coughing up" manner.this happened for around 5 minutes then stopped.not long after she went and had a feed and a preen and seems okay-which i know doesnt mean she is.she wasnt doing it to another bird or object, and has been a bit more sleepy today but saying that she had fly time which she is still not as proficient at as my other birds-so she tires out quickly!the avian vet in our area isnt available until weekend-really dont know if she was vomiting or just regurgitating something that was stuck?any advice would be appreciated thanks

By what you described she was vomiting keep and eye on her and if you have a small cage i would move her to that and put a heat lamp on the corner. Also replace all the seed in the cage and water.

It is vomit if it sticks on the feathers around the beak and above the cere.

hi,thanks for replying-there wasnt anything stuck to her face, will follow your advice and keep an eye on things-she seems a bit sleepy and puffed up-would an ordinary vet be any good or should i wait to see the avian vet?

In most cases ordinary vets are a waste of time and money when it comes to birds.

from my experience... an ordinary vet is about as useful as... well I can't think of anything that's as useless when it comes to treating birds...

If she is fluffed up and very quite and vomiting, I would say she is very sick, could be sour crop or canker or something completely different .

I would put in a small cage and a heat lamb for warm but she will probably need medication.

Good luck with her and I hope it is nothing and she gets better.

Oh your local normal vet could give you some medication for her.
