Posted December 15, 201014 yr Hi All thought I'd add pics of my last 2 nests for this season . 1 st pair. chicks 1-7 Some ready for kindy. Nest 2 Aquarius and Missy. plus 1-7 chicks. These 2 showing cinnamon. Colours range from Violet through mauve to light grey as this point. Some ready for kindy some still need Dad, moved hens out as one started to lay again. Last time that happened she attacked last chicks in nestbox, thought I wouldn't take chance this time.
December 17, 201014 yr Soooooooooooo pretty!! Is the first baby a DF dom pied. Just wondered for the lack of markings but still having that spot on the back of the head. They are really pretty babies!
December 20, 201014 yr Author Thank's Sunnie, chick you mentioned has the green patch between wings and has a little patch of green on lower abdomen near each leg.
December 27, 201014 yr Is 7 chicks a rare number or am I just inexperienced? It seems to be that most people of 6 or 7 eggs and then 2+ die in the eggs or die from similar causes, making the total number of chicks 4 or 5.
December 27, 201014 yr hey robyn ! lovely chicks once again what an amazing array of colours in just 1 clutch for the second pair!!! very nice shades and very vibrant congratulations! A-B.
December 28, 201014 yr Is is just me or do some of the birds in NEST 2, look spangle? Lovely birds Robyn, I would love to have ALL of them in my aviary I especially love Aquarius, I am in love with Yellow-face blues. Will you keep some to breed off of? I would easily pay $30-$45 per bird ! ! ! ! !
December 28, 201014 yr Taylor - Aquarius is spangle so 50% of his off spring will be spangle as well (when matched to a normal) The Budgie Guy - you are right to have 7 is a big number for a clutch, means they are great parents.
December 28, 201014 yr Author Thanks all, haven't been "on" for a while. Yes 4 of Aquarius's chicks are spangle 2 also show cinnamon so I think he is also carrying cinnamon,( if so those 2 should be hens) if I have got the sex linked bit sorted. They are now in aviary with others. Lovely soft shades nice chicks. The ones I now have I'll be keeping I won't breed again until March or so. I have bred quite a few big clutches. Aquarius had 10 eggs raised 9, from last season, this time he had 7 from 8 eggs. Mine are pet types I think someone said they have bigger clutches than show birds. Thanks again for you comments.
December 28, 201014 yr 2 also show cinnamon so I think he is also carrying cinnamon,( if so those 2 should be hens) if I have got the sex linked bit sorted Correct love to see some more pictures of them now.
December 29, 201014 yr Some of my show types quite regularly lay 11-12 eggs per clutch, usually all fertile. Always have to put down pet type foster pairs at the same time just to handle the over flow.
