Posted December 12, 201014 yr Are chokos safe for budgies to eat? How is it best served? Raw or cooked???
December 23, 201014 yr I wouldn't know, I wouldn't give them to my birds. Jimmy chokos are disgusting, Greg grows them, they are tastless. They are a green spikey hard as vege, the size of a pear. This is a yukky choko Edited December 23, 201014 yr by splat
July 5, 201113 yr I grow choko's funny mine don't look like that one, most of mine don't have spikes. Ive been feeding them to everything from the budgies, ringnecks and chickens for long time. Budgies prefer nibbling the skin off, ringencks will eat the lot the chickens eat every last bit. I also love them, its a love or hate thing with choko's my neighbour calls them balls of green snot. For myself I boil them with potato and beef or chicken stock with chilli and make a mash. Delicious. I also cut them up and add to soups. For the birds I sometimes put them in a blender with capsicum, pumpkin and some broccoli or sprouts and make a mash up for them.
December 22, 201212 yr I often add choko to my birds vegetable mix (home grown), they love them! (They look nothing like the one pictured above though :/ )
January 1, 201312 yr Hi Splat, good to hear you. As to choko's don't know if birds like them but if you get them really young, lightly steam and serve with parsley in white sauce they are lovely, even baked, just as nice. Only trouble is if you grow them the vine takes over the whole yard. Meanwhile back to the birds !!!
January 24, 201312 yr Lol, Robyn, LeoOlive resurrected a two year old thread! I wish Splat was still around. Here is another old thread where people chimed in about Chokos. It's not about them, but they were discussed: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=29487&st=0&p=352985&hl=chokosentry352985
