Hey Splat , you have a nice style there. Do you work with any particular breeders or are you developing your own line?

  • Author

Thank you Matt.

I am trying to develop my own style, I have been told by a few breeders that my birds have a particular look, so I guess I am almost a stud, well getting there slowly.

I did bring in birds this year totally unrelated from a breeder but they didn't mix that well and I feel the look was gone but at the same time they were out crosses, next year when I put them back into my line hopefully I should get good results.

This breeder has some outstanding birds too.

I have 2 lines going but both lines extend from my wow bird, a grey green spangle cock bird.

I used 2 different hens on him and branched out with those 2 hens.

So I have the spangle/Df spangle line and the violet/normal line.

This violet green is also the violets son, I put him with his half sister and father is the yellow df spangle. I think this mating paid off. The 2 lines brought together.

He it stunning hey Dean, He has width all the way down. I tried to put the parents together again to get more because I only got this one but she went a bit egg bound, she could be ruined not sure. will give her another chance next year.

But I have got a daughter from her but different father. The father an outcross, maybe I can put this boy and her together next year and see what happens.

This is her, opaline cinn light green, but she doesn't have the head he has. They are both split for blue. Her dad a sky.

Thanks Sunnie, yes they are nice and if I was still beginner I would be wrapped but I don't think they have that wow factor that my white boys do.

I will soon fine out in the show season but some of them have dropped their tail and I have a feeling they are going to tailess wonders.

But still I am happy at the way most of them are turning out. I have a lovely nest of spangles coming on and I am really excited and a nest of normals that are really really nice. But then I can't show those purple rings until 2112.

Thanks Kaz But still have a fair bit of work yet, but they are looking good. Need to work on length of mask next, especially with all those out crosses, they all seem to have short mask.

Lovely chicks Splat, I really like the DF nest of chicks though. :D

Thanks Robyn.

Tuesday Night we had a budgie meeting Christmas breakup and we were to take along unbroken caps and young birds.

I took one unbroken cap and a few young birds along.

A Champion breeder won best unbroken cap and I won best young bird with my cobalt opaline spangle, son of my white Df spangle, brother to Kaz's white DF spangle.

On the night I won 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th places with the young birds.

This is him here is a lovely big powerful bird, with good feather, length and shoulder and lovely head. Very strong family.

Ooooh he is nice. I recognise the family look as well :)

  • Author

Thanks Dean, Yes I think I have a stud on this line because it is a strong family as I was told the other night at the meeting and they all have the same look.

The old boy the dad, but I have based this line off the yellow df spangle his son, and this boy is the son of the son of the yellow df spangle. So meaning they are throwing me good birds all the time. Pretty happy.

The words out of my mouth were "Oh my God" and the thoughts in my head were "what a gorgeous bird!" Congrats on your wins. He is a lovely boy :D
