Posted December 3, 201014 yr Hello, Is it possible to be a real pain and have all my 16 budgies genetics named please. We want to get into breeding and my husband did this as a youngster with his uncle many moons ago! This is our first year breeding and we just let them pair up and whatever happens, happens. We have some beautiful colourings but I have 2 mauve/violet males and 1 female (plus Missy now) so would like to get into that. Also want to see if I have any grey colourings in the flock. It is a big task I know but is it possible please? I have photos of all birds under Budgie Pictures - My Flock And Babies AND The Rest Of My Flock. (or do you want the photos here?) Females & Males: Coco & Charlie Cinnamon & Marvin Ma (Double Factor Spangle) & Tawa (Violet normal?) Sky & Cobo Flubber & Snow (Albino) Martha & Fred Snowflake & Bluey Olive & Max (Yellow Face Blue ...) Many many thanks in advance if this is possible.
December 4, 201014 yr It is usually best to post one pair at a time and wait for answers. More likely to get a reply posting pair by pair rather than a whole stack load at a time which can take a while to answer.
December 4, 201014 yr Didn't find pictures of all of them but here are the ones I did find Coco – Yellow face recessive pied Charlie – Spangle grey green Ma - Double Factor Spangle Tawa – Normal cobalt violet Sky & Cobo – Normal sky blue & a recessive pied blue Snow - Albino Martha – Opaline (the picture is not very clearbut probably cobalt) Fred – Spangle sky blue Snowflake – Double factor spangle Bluey – Normal cobalt Olive – opaline green Max - Type 2 yellow face sky Blue Edited December 4, 201014 yr by Neville
December 4, 201014 yr I agree with Dean decide on your pairs and then let us know there are so many possiblities that you someone can't take each female and put it with each male and vs versa. We have a genetic section in our FAQ's too to learn more about Mutations and which ones are dominant and recessive. Good place to start is to know that Green is dominant over Blue. 2 Green Birds with not carrying the blue gene will always produced all green chicks. 2 Blue birds will always produced blue chicks The color variation of the blue or green will be determined on if the bird is carrying no dark factors, 1 or 2 dark factors and you can tell that by the shade of the blue or green. That is explained in our FAQ section too.
December 4, 201014 yr Author Didn't find pictures of all of them but here are the ones I did find Coco – Yellow face recessive pied Charlie – Spangle grey green Ma - Double Factor Spangle Tawa – Normal cobalt violet Sky & Cobo – Normal sky blue & a recessive pied blue Snow - Albino Martha – Opaline (the picture is not very clearbut probably cobalt) Fred – Spangle sky blue Snowflake – Double factor spangle Bluey – Normal cobalt Olive – opaline green Max - Type 2 yellow face sky Blue Wow! Thank you Neville. That is an enormous help - now we can get reading and studying. Lots of info to digest in the genetics breeding section and we will be able to understand it all a lot more. We are slowly getting to know the basics but these hidden genetics like dilutes, and a green coloured bird which is actually a blue throws us. I still can't understand an opaline but now I have one will read up more on it. Still confused about a clear wing and spangle too. Next step is I have started a spreadsheet with columns for the eyes, cheek patches, tails, legs, face, head, body, back & wing colours and to get that filled in. The photos are totally working as they colours aren't coming out true. Flubber is actually on top of the nesting box with Snow in the first photo on The Rest Of My Flock. I have just added Cinnamon & Marvin to the end of The Rest Of My Flock too and added a blurb. They actually star in their own thread of Is This French Moult Please? Thanks once again for your help. I will have breeding cages up and running for that. I am wanting to go greys and violets, so will need to get a grey bird by the looks as only have one male with grey in his genetic make-up. "2 blue birds will always produce blue chicks" - That is why Sky and Cobo had sky blue and cobalt blue babies but only one is recessive, the other four are normals. Dark factors I am getting to grips with as found a great web page that shows the colours and cheek patches and tail colours. http://www.budgie-info.com/budgie-body-colors.html And this site too: http://www.budgieplace.com/colorsguide.html It's like going back to school again and getting the brain working again! Many thanks for the advice.
