Posted December 3, 201014 yr Hi, My name is Vanessa and I have one female Budgie - her name is Presley - YES, I love Elvis but Presley is also the name of a blue coloured stone and she has beautiful blue markings. Alway, I'm really writing to ask some advice. I found Presley on a 40+ degrees day and she looked like she was going to die. I put a bath in her cage without knowing what I was actually doing but the next day she was all puffed up and very much alive - thank goodness! So, I've had her for almost two years and I do not intend to get her a mate. She seems to be very attached to me actually and started a while back doing this funny pose whenever she saw me. Weird? About three days later an egg appeared in her cage. When this happened again and again I started to work out that she was presenting to me and it meant another egg would soon follow. When, over a period of time 3 eggs appeared I thought, wow! my birdie is really in love with me. : ) : ) Now, however, the eggs are still coming - I think we are up to 13 - I have actually lost count. Is this normal? Is she some kind of special breeding budgie? I am a novice and know only what I have learned through observation, reading and having visited the vet twice - at the time of the visits she had not laid any eggs at all so I am very much in the dark. Advice? Cheers.
December 3, 201014 yr Hi Vanessa you have hit the nail on the head with her presenting herself for mating. 13 eggs is a lot Make sure she has plenty of extra calcium ( dont rely on cuttlebone to solve that alone ). Problem ? Yes, as with some older females they can become chronic egglayers and just keep going. There is an injection a vet can give for that. PS love the choice of name
December 4, 201014 yr Author Cheers Kaz. My funny little birdie.... Cover off this morning and there she goes again... More presenting. Sigh. I'm off to get her some calcium- thanks for the tip about the cuttlefish- I did notice that she's almost knawed it all down. Will check out with the vet too... Poor little love must be over it by now....wouldn't want that many eggs popping out my hoohar!!!

I have a female budgie that I have had for about a year, she has never laid an egg, I got a mate for her just last week and I know nothing is going to suddenly happen, but I want to give you you props , my female only sees me as the hand that feeds her...yet she still bites me....my little boy though is a sweet heart he makes gurgling noises at me and rubs his head on the cage infront of me, but then the female gets jealous and sqwaks at him and pulls on his tail feathers...
