Posted November 26, 201014 yr Any help on their genetics would be great as well please? This is Coco and Charlie This is their first clutch - 2 chicks from 4 eggs Joe and Creme (a Creamino?) born first week of October Coco and Charlie got keen and started laying when Joe and Creme were 4 weeks old! She laid 3 eggs, threw one out and then 10 days later started laying again. Needless to say the first chick hatched and she laid the 7th and 8th eggs eitherside. The 2nd egg got dark but hasn't hatched so guess chick has died in egg. The next lot of eggs are due to start hatching next week. This is Ma and Tawa - (Maori colours!) Ma is a white - double factor X ??? and Tawa is a Violet. Unfortunately they are the next door neighbours to my FM clutch but don't see any problems with the chicks? They hatched 4 chicks from 5 eggs. Ma and Tawa's chicks - eldest was 4 weeks old yesterday. I see 2 skys, a cobalt and a violet? Then there is Cobo and Sky (with another female white double factor x ??) - their youngest chick has the reggae feather do. They were 5 chicks from 6 eggs. These are the youngest lot of chicks and the 1st chick will be four weeks old tomorrow. The middle 3 chicks as they all sit on each other! Then the reggae 5th chick

November 26, 201014 yr Author Great pictures of the babies in the plastic carton... I take it Creme has red eye's? Thanks - only item I could think of to put them into safely and take a photo without them getting away from me in the Aviary! Yes Creme has red eyes which made me think she had to be a creamino.
November 27, 201014 yr awwww you have some really cute chicks there kiwigirl !!! but i just love this creamino ...creme =] what a ...i think i have just found the next type of budgie i would like! how does this work? i thought when a bird is albino all the colour is gone?? is that yellowface or goldenface? and i like the 4 little spangle chicks, sky violet and cobalt good mix! some great colours in your flock kiwigirl!!! November 30, 201014 yr how does this work? i thought when a bird is albino all the colour is gone?? is that yellowface or goldenface? Not in the case of yellowface albino Does anyone have a scientific explanation why that is the case?

Not in the case of yellowface albino Does anyone have a scientific explanation why that is the case? yeh! that would be good!! can someone explain ?? as i would really love to know why the yellowface is an exception to a "no-colour pigment gene" (albinoism) and can creamino occur in df spangles?? I dont know for certain but as albino is a recessive gene and yellowface is a dominant gene I am guessing thats why. And YES you get YF DF spangles........we have photos of them in our mutations section My yellowface double factor spangle cock Edited November 30, 201014 yr by **KAZ**
December 1, 201014 yr Because albinism blocks only certain types of enzyme production. The yellow enzyme in green budgies or par-green budgies (yellowfaces) is not affected by the albinism. I could look up specifics, but thats the simple explanation. And if you look carefully, albinos and lutinos always have a hint of colour anyway. Albinos masking blue (not grey) have a sparkly blue sheen to them when viewed in good light, creamino's have a wonderful pale jade colouration etc etc.
December 1, 201014 yr Dean is correct. Lovely birds. Ma is a double factor spangle - which is why all the chicks are spangle.

Her parents are the first two birds - Coco and Charlie. At least I know what chicks Ma's will be so I have a female violet spangle or are they double factor too? Why is their Dad trying to be VERY friendly with them when they fledge. I guess the first 2 are girls because he did this to both of them!! My head is hurting. Think I need to read up on genetics over the next year! Thanks for all the helpful comments. Dean is correct. Lovely birds. Ma is a double factor spangle - which is why all the chicks are spangle. Thanks - I'm quite happy with the colourings. I'm aiming to breed greys and violets - got a violet chick from Ma and she fledged yesterday - no obvious sign of FM. At least I know one of the genetic names for her chicks! Dean is correct. Lovely birds. Ma is a double factor spangle - which is why all the chicks are spangle. Is the other white female in flock 2 photos a Double Factor Spangle too? One of them seems to have bright white cheek patches but the other one doesn't, same feather colouring. They don't have red eyes.
December 3, 201014 yr sorry to highjack your threadf kiwigirl but kaz this boy is simply stunning! slao nice chicks kiwigirl look forward to more pics
