Posted November 26, 201014 yr Hello, I am new to this forum and live in the North Island in Kapiti. I currently have 16 budgies and 18 chicks and 10 eggs; 8 cockatiels and 10 eggs and 4 Chinese Quails and 7 chicks and 9 eggs. I bought budgies last year but no-one bred except for the Chinese Quails. This year they have gone for it and giving me lots of unique problems. I have 5 pairs nesting in an outdoor aviary in nesting boxes, 1 pair I had to put in a cage inside as she was boss of the roost and wouldn't let anyone into a nestbox. She hatched 2 chicks from 4 eggs (one I am hoping is a cremino but more on another post!) After 4 weeks she started laying again and laid 3 eggs, threw 1 out and 10 days later continued laying until she now has 7 eggs & 1 chick. The 2nd egg is dark coloured but hasn't hatched for a few days now. Another pair their chicks are 5 weeks and starting to fledge, I was so excited because there is a lutino and albino but think the nestbox has french moult! (another post!) Two pairs of cockatiels are also nesting and due any day, one pair previously had 2 chicks from 3 eggs but they died at 5 days after a cold snap. Even the Quails aren't playing ball, after hatching 6 chicks from 8 eggs, I found another chick the next day. Then 3 weeks old and she starts laying again. About 5 days ago pushed all but 3 eggs out of the nest and over the days has 7 out of the 9 eggs she is sitting on - they are due next week too, so will have to move the chicks from the parents. I am running out of space to put everyone! I hope I am able to give some helpful advice too, but at the moment could do with help with my unique troubles! Edited November 26, 201014 yr by Kiwigal67

November 27, 201014 yr Hi Kia, welcome to the forum! Looking forward to getting to know you, and your birds.
November 27, 201014 yr I don't think Kia is her name... it might be... but "Kia Ora" is the way you greet someone in Maori. Like "Talofa" in Samoan or "G'day Mate" in Australian...
November 27, 201014 yr I don't think Kia is her name... it might be... but "Kia Ora" is the way you greet someone in Maori. Like "Talofa" in Samoan or "G'day Mate" in Australian... Oh, that is so funny! Don't I look ridiculous now! Well, then, change it to Welcome, Kiwigal! Edited November 27, 201014 yr by Finnie
