Posted November 11, 201014 yr Hi Ladies and Gents, Hope all is well. So I have noticed one of my boys yesterday had his feathers raised at the back of his neck. I managed to catch him and have a look, seems as though he has a squishy lump under the skin, is very spongy but I can appear to move it? My camera is playing up but hope to have a couple of photos up showing the location and how he looks. My initial thoughts were that it may be fatty tumour or cyst, but as outlined by many is more related to being over weight. is in an avairy and so gets lots of exercise flying around with the others, and doesn't really have a fattening diet I have separated him for the moment so I can take him in if needed but he is usually kept in an avairy with 8 other budgies, all my budgies are given budgie seed mix, the odd millet spray, chopped veg and fruit (carrot, broccoli, cucumber, apple) they're treated to milk thistle now and then and of course fresh water daily. Any thoughts are well appreciated as i live at least 3 to 4 hours from avian vet. I have called local vet clinic and they are happy to look at him. Thanks guys!!
November 11, 201014 yr Some of these things begin as a blocked feather follicle and become a feather cyst. Picture will help.
November 11, 201014 yr Author Thanks Kaz, will try get this darn camera working so to give you a better idea.
November 17, 201014 yr Author Hi guys, sorry for the delay, havent had internet access but I have good news! The lump in the back of his neck seems to have disappeared, which makes me agree with you Kaz that it was blocked feather follicle/feather cyst. Managed to get photos of it so once i remember how to use photobucket, will post them just so you can still have a look. thanks again and hope you and all your feathered friends are well!
